John Legend lives up to his last name as his win at Sunday night’s Creative Arts Emmys puts him in an extremely small group of entertainers who have collected the industry’s top awards [Emmy, Grammys, Oscars, Tony].

“…[Legend] won an award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Legend was an executive producer for the show.

The “All of Me” singer joins just a small number of people who have raked in a Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. Other EGOT winners include Whoopi Goldberg and Mel Brooks. This victory also cements Legend’s place as the first black man to achieve this rare accolade.”

It should be noted he is the first Black man to achieve the honor through the collection of competitive awards.

Other Black acts who are “unofficial” EGOTs because of commemorative or Lifetime Achievement recognition include Quincy Jones, James Earl Jones, and Harry Belafonte.
