It’s here!
Ahead of the premiere of its black-and-white music video (shot in Los Angeles recently), Mariah Carey‘s unveiled the first listen to ‘With You’ – the first single from her yet-named 15th studio album (due later this year).
Warming fans up with the buzz single ‘GTFO,’ Carey teamed with super producer DJ Mustard for ‘You’ – a slow burning, piano-driven ballad that sees the diva telling quite the love story. The real story here, however, will be if fans will fall in love with her latest offering.
Look inside for your first listen and tell us:
THIS IS WHAT WE ASKED FOR!!!. CLASSIC MARIAH
The song is trash
If you wanna hate please do it trash.
Sorry, but agreed. She should have just went with GTFO as the lead single.
FLOP….just like GTFO.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm well. This isn’t classic Mariah. This is……lazy Mariah. Not inspiring. Not a vocal fest. A 12 year old could write this. What happen?????
well go write it than and let me know how it turn out
Mariah has lost it. 🙁
Is this CandyBling Part 2? Is this a song from the INCREDIBLE DJ mustard – who maybe should just produce Ella Mai. Mariah Carey is suppose to be one of the Greatest Singers of our time. She is destroying her Legacy. Its ok, not great.
lies
Played it once and immediately liked it. This song is a great song for fall.
TROLLmine!
No no no boring I thought she was having fun this era…I needed a it’s like that 2018 Esque track something with a least a bop yo the production…DJ mustard did u give all the beats to ella mai. Bad call…stop try a have another we belong together and just have fun! Gtfo was better then this. Uugh.
please have a seat. your life seems to be boring you need to get a hobby because hating aint your strong point.
The album will more than likely have uptempo songs! She really needed to bare her soul and this was such a sincere way to do it. She referenced NYE and her public turmoil as well as professing her love for Bryan. I LOVE THIS
I actually like this song!!
Beautiful song! Sounds like Memoirs era. Perfect Fall release
slay!!!!
I like it. Kind of wish she would have started belting though but she played it safe. Her lower register is there and just as resonant as ever.
Yeahhhhh that’s what I’m saying , I wanting more belting !
The song is ok, but not really single worthy. I think “GTFO” was more catchy and that’s not really saying much.
I liked the song , the chorus didn’t capture me at first like the verses did , but it grew on me the more the song progressed ….. was a bit underwhelmed by the ending , she usually goes hard on the end adlibs and it was just a bit blah .
I kinda like it but the chorus wasn’t big enough for me nor big enough to make this catch on. I appreciate her going the classic route but sadly this wouldn’t go anywhere. All her new music is a miss except for the track with YG, which I loved.
I wasn’t expecting much but she definitely delivered with this!!!
I’m glad she didn’t do her usual insane belting on the end because every song doesn’t need that.
Good for witching things up. Sounds modern and classic at the same time.
better, but.. not quite it
it’s good
I like it a lot. I don’t think it’s as good as a single should be, but I definitely think it’s a good song! More belting would have made a better single, it’s what people expect and want from her.
Sounds decent and classic Mariah.
I’ll start off saying I love Mariah and I really want her to win. Lots of her gems are not singles and she has strong albums.
That being said, to me this song is trash. DJ Mustard that’s all you could come up with working with such a legend, really ?
Mariah/her team : they clearly aren’t learning from their past mistakes.
Back in the day, and I’m not even referring to her voice, they would always pick the right singles.
How is that song the lead single ? How is that song gonna reintroduce her to the general public beyond her fans community ?
No memorable melody or chorus, no climax, lots of breathy vocals… I hope I’m wrong but it sounds like a flop to me.
It looked like everything was back on track lately… but ever since a couple years they have been putting her worst songs out as singles : Triumphant, TAOLG, You’re Mine… all forgettable material that no one cared about. And here we go again just when I thought they got it together.
GTFO was a mistake as well. They should have put out a strong uptempo for that « buzz » cut and a strong midtempo for the lead single.
This is such a waste. Bring on the album. But nope I’m not with you on that one. I wish you the best MC, I hope it charts well or at least decently.
???? wow… you have a lot of free time
You just said everything I was thinking. I’m so disappointed.
I’m still enjoying GTFO the miles jay remix
It’s a grower. The more you listen, the better it gets.
This is her most radio friendly tracking years. Huge potential here. I like it.
Girl. Have you NOT heard FADED? Standing O? Its a Wrap?
Honey those songs songs aren’t ever gonna get released as singles. I like em too but…let it go.
This sounds like a Jermaine Dupri production more than a DJ Mustard one. It’s sad how generic Mustard’s beats are. With that said, the song is good enough, but I expected more singing and less cooing. I feel like Mariah does not care that her fans want her to SING on a new record.
Where is LA Reid??? I was hoping for a emancipation of Mimi type single.
I Loved it on first Listen. Production wise she brings out a side of DJ Mustard we haven’t heard before and I must say I’m quite excited about what she has in store album wise. Her vocals sound so resonant, clear and effortless than it has in years. Mariah’s Back!
I think once listeners get over the fact that there’s no major belting they will start to appreciate the complex simplicity of the song. I also think it’s a smart move, as in recent years Mariah hasn’t felt comfortable belting live anyway. She’s sensible not to be recording songs she has to lip a large percentage of when it comes to performing them. That said, she can play with how she sings them.., as they’re in a more comfortable range. I’m here for effortless Mariah not strain Mariah so it’s a win for me.
@Teflon – I agree.
And after almost 30 years of releasing singles, she wants to release songs with expletives in the choruses??? Grow up and do better, ‘Riah!!!
Listen people! Mariah already proven herself a long time ago. She is having fun and making music for her fans her legacy can’t be destroyed. The same can be said about Janet Jackson. Haters are fans too
We all know Mariah is a legend but I still want her to win. She can still rule the charts like she did before but these songs ain’t IT. Who approved this as a single??? Has Mariah forgot the formula to her own success? It was never just about the voice. It was also well written songs with universal themes that anyone of any age, race or gender could relate to. It was unforgettable melodies that would loop in your head over and over. It was blissful heartbreak, unapologetic lust or unbridled joy. All of that is missing from her music this decade. With You, Mine and Triumphant have been way too self indulgent for the general public to care. They can’t relate to these songs and there is no real melody to keep them hooked. Do better Mariah.
A whisper fest not hot
A mid tempo bop and classic MC
This single is nearly exactly what Mariah needs to release. It’s current yet classic, light-hearted, yet substantive, universal yet personal, and authentic. And there’s no stunt publicity surrounding it, just music, artistry, beauty, all quintessential Mariah Carey. She is giving us Mariah Carey, not trying to be young (this could be arguably a phrase I hate haha: grown-folks music), but it appeals to youth because of its connectedness.
I’m so ready for this video where she has been looking RADIANT in the snippets.
Mariah has already done this song before though… Angels Cry, I stay in love are the first two that come to mind so honestly it’s quite BORING and already done by her. I’m underwhelmed by the song and the vocals.
I said the same thing, she’s done this song on basically all of her albums at this point.
I didn’t love it at first besides the lower register parts, which are really rich and beautiful. It is kind of the same Candy Bling meets Bye Bye meets I Don’t Want to Cry but without any pow to it. It’s not bad but it was missing that wow factor. From what I’ve seen, the video will be one of her best produced in a while so maybe that will help.
Sorry, its a no. Sounds like a leftover from that E=MC2 album, which was one of her worst albums, if not the worst in her discography.
I love it.
The melody is good, but the piano with the bass and snap is super basic and not even remotely interesting. I’m a fan of Mariah, but this doesn’t sound like an album I want so far.
Eric, You’ve literally heard one song from the album and you are rejecting the entire album.
You’re definitely not fan.
I like it a lot. It is not a mistake for a single or song in general for her. The mistake was GTFO and I always said it. Yes she uses here her airy whispery voice a lot, but in the BEAUTIFUL way. Sounds amazing. Not in the baby sounding type of voice everybody laughs at, like in GTFO. People need to start forgetting about her belting. What I´ve noticed is that she´s finally forgetting about creating in studio impossible beltings for her to sing at her age. I´ve noticed she or they are finally embracing that this era. I have also noticed the look and pics for this album are MILES above the Elusive Chanteuse era. I suppose the whole new team are more in touch with how she should look too. I just hope the album is a good full body of work to listen to like elusive was for the most part.
About the success… I don´t know, she is not in her prime and people like Gaga with all their vocal stamina still on are currently dominating the market for this Fall. But hey Mariah is her own regardless and her fans will buy definitely. I´m here for it now that I have listened to this song.
Mariah is one of greatest artists reminiscent of the OLD SCHOOL. This offering is classic Mariah and I’m looking forward to the rest of the album. She is a diva that should be recognized like Whitney, Aretha, Patti, and Gladys. She also writes some of her music. Mariah is phenomenal!
