Nicki Minaj Sued By Tracy Chapman

Published: Tuesday 23rd Oct 2018 by Sam

Recent times have seen Nicki Minaj locked in a social media spats and shoe-throwing showdowns.

However, Onika’s latest tussle is of the legal variety and it comes courtesy of legendary singer Tracy Chapman.

As reported in the run-up to the release of Minaj’s ‘Queen‘ album, the femcee had been open about her quest to have Chapman permit use of ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ as a sample on her Nas collaboration ‘Sorry.’

The back and forth is said to have factored into the delay of the LP, and when it didn’t yield an agreement the song was left off the tracklist but rolled out on radio anyway.

Well, Chapman is far from pleased and is taking her annoyance to court.

According to TMZ, Chapman’s suit asserts that she was shocked when ‘Sorry’ – which comprises half of the lyrics and vocal melody of her song – surfaced publicly in August.

It received its much hyped debut on Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 show, was played on The Breakfast Club, and is still readily available to hear online.

Per the report, Nicki and her team “tried to make it disappear,” but for Chapman feels that the damage was done.

As well as suing for damages, Chapman is seekingly an order preventing Nicki from releasing the song again.
