Cynthia Erivo continues to collect wins.
In recent years, the rising star has made a seismic mark on-stage and on the big screen following critically acclaimed showings in productions such as the ‘Color Purple’ (for which she earned a Tony) and ‘Widows’ (which she starred in alongside Viola Davis).
Now, just one year after taking home her first Grammy Award, the multi-talented Brit has inked a lucrative record deal.
Billboard reports that Erivo has singed with Universal’s Verve Records.
Home to an eclectic list of acts including Andrea Bocelli and Diana Krall.
Speaking on the partnership, Danny Bennett, president & CEO of Verve Label Group, said in a statement:
“Cynthia Erivo has a voice like no other, and we are proud to have her join the pantheon of Verve’s greatest vocalists including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone. Clearly, Cynthia has proven she is an artistic talent that is capable of accomplishing anything she puts her mind to, and we look forward to joining her on this creative journey.”
“I am thrilled to be part of a label that has housed some of the greatest voices of our time. I cannot wait to begin this journey!”
The gifted star will be hitting the studio in 2019 to record her major label debut.
She’ll also be intensifying her presence on the big screen in the New Year. For, she’ll be appearing in the lead role of Harriet Tubman in the biopic ‘Harriet’ and in other flicks such as ‘Chaos Walking’ and ‘Needle In A Timestack’ with Orlando Bloom, Leslie Odom Jr, and Frida Pinto.
We’re elated for Cynthia! Her talent knows no bounds and her future grows more luminous by the day.
