The news was revealed moments ago by organizers for the May 1st ceremony.
It was also announced that Mimi, who has 18 Hot 100 #1 singles, will be hitting the stage at the MGM Grand Arena event.
Carey, who is currently in the midst of the ‘Caution World Tour,’ follows last year’s Icon honoree Janet Jackson.
Also on the performer bill for this year’s BBMAs are Normani and Sam Smith, Khalid, Kelly Clarkson, and Panic At The Disco. More names are expected in the weeks ahead.

Well deserved. I have my issues with Mariah, but I will say that I don’t think she really gets the recognition she deserves enough. Alot of that is her fault, choosing to market her image over her music, but her chart achievements do deserve to be celebrated just as much as the other Icons. Glad she’s getting the award.
Literally the only good thing about awards liek the Billboards (nowadays) is when they pat homage to a real legend, like Janel, the two times Celine has been there lately, and now Mariah. Literally nothing is great about Billboard these days. Terrible and unaccurate charts.
When it’s right it’s right, Mariah had one of the best albums of 2018, critically accalaimed RNB anthems in there. I hope she brings a lot of movement and sass to this, we need to be saved again like her 2005 Grammy Performance.
