It’s been six months since Soca star Machel Montano & R&B diva Ashanti first introduced their Island-kissed hit, ‘The Road,’ to the masses, but now the duo are hoping to kiss the top of charts with the cut by introducing its long-awaited accompanying music video.
Having already topped iTunes charts across the globe upon its January release, ‘The Road’ – co-written by Ashanti, Montano, Jovan James and producer Travis World – took the duo on the road to Trinidad to film to shoot the clip.
“We made a conscious decision that we would shoot the video during the days of carnival at places that we would be, so the cameras just captured what was happening around us,” Machel explained. “You will see the colors, the cultural expression, the celebrations, and the diverse people involved in these activities and it looks like pure joy, unity, togetherness.”
Tapping the Toronto based Director X to lens the visual, look inside to see the magic Ashanti and Montano created:
The video above comes as Ashanti’s second foray with international sights and sounds in just two months. Her previous effort came as assistant to Nigerian star Willie X.O‘s ‘Early in the Morning,’ which saw its video filmed in Thailand.

This is ridiculous. Ashanti has money! She does not need to be doing these low budget collaborations. Her ‘voice’ needs the edge hip-hop brings not reggae. Believe it or not reggae is more suited towards strong voices like Tanya Stephens, Sasha, Dawn Penn, Sister Nancy, etc.
Also, she needs to embrace her age. Ashanti has the body I had most of 2019 after my second child in December last year aka which was too thick for a two piece bikini. I have since toned up but for Ashanti (who has no kids yet) she should wear two pieces until she tones up her midsection again since she is a celebrity. America loves thick women but they don’t like jiggly midsections
Gurl u forgot to mention all of your stretch marks after u gave birth. lol how dare u compare your body with Ashanti… u delusional h-o—e
I don’t have stretch marks. I use expensive creams to moisturize my skin

This isn’t reggae tho….this is soca music and this song is big here in Caribbean everything doesn’t need to cater to America only ?
Ashanti has been irrelevant since the late 2000’s….
Mid-2000’s. Her last hit was in 2004 so she was only relevant for 2-3 years… That Declaration album in 2008 was a mess.
Lmao. Damn sis I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. She had minor success in ‘08.?
Ashanti is dancing looking a mess the way she jumping around. A mess
sorry but no one is going to the movies to see Beyonce play a goddamn lion and don’t nobody but the beehive give that much of a f*** about Beyonce most people are going to see The Lion King simply because it’s The Lion King and we want to see the differences and the likes between the Lion King of yesterday and the Lion King of today not because Beyonce. They have made a big mistake I guarantee the next Disney film that they put Beyonce in that’s not a good remake is going to bomb at the box office and that’s going to show you that no one gives a f*** about Beyonce if we did Beyonce’s album that accompanied the movie would be number one but it failed to make it to number one because no one gives a f*** about Beyonce.
LOL!!!! Ashanti is no ones entertainer or vocalist. She had some cute songs in 2002. That about sums up her career. She looks a fool.
Ashanti looks good.
