Madonna‘s long been regarded as the most successful female recording artist in history thanks not only to her reported 300+ million in record sales, but also a nearly unrivaled 36-year run on the Billboard charts – namely the Hot 100.
Granted, her reigns atop the Billboard 200 with 9 of her 14 studio albums are nothing to shake a stick at (placing her second among women for most career chart-toppers as Barbra Streisand leads with 11), the Queen of Pop’s truest crowning glory has come with the strides she’s made on the singles chart. With 38 top 10 hits (12 of them hitting #1), she – as of time reported – sits in history books for having the most placements on the chart’s topmost dectet. Other notable accomplishments include first female artist in history to have 6 (or more) #1 singles, most consecutive top 5 singles of any artist, and she was once listed as the artist who took the shortest time to amass 20 top 10 singles (a feat later surpassed by Rihanna as we reported here).

As we reported here, ‘Lover’ – the title track from Swift’s latest album (released August 23) – made its inaugural impact on this week’s Hot 100 when it debuted at #19. The impressive premiere gave the 29-year-old the 44th top 20 hit of her career, a feat no other female artist has known since M nabbed her 44th top 20 in 2012 with the Nicki Minaj-assisted ‘Gimme All Ur Lovin.’
With all of the songs from the ‘Lover’ album dominating Spotify as of time of this report it is likely one or more of them will impact next week’s refreshed Hot 100. If and when this happens, Taylor will enter history books as the female artist with the most top 20 hits.

Sales dont make you a legend. Quantity does not a legend make. A legend creates long lasting impact. What significant impact outside of sales has her ARTISTRY done for the industry, pop culture and the world in general? She makes generic in-the-now microwavable pop tunes and appeals to white america. That is why she sells. Nothing she’s done has inspired other artists or people to do anything different. Save it.
That’s your opinion of a legend. A legend to me is someone who’s connected with an audience to a degree that they’ve had several successful albums.
If those reasons why the only reason why she sells, then then why is she the only one to be selling so much? Obviously she has something special, because no else has people going to the store and spending their money on.

Taylor swift brought country music to the forefront when she won album of the year for fearless back in 2010.
Country music was literally dying but it was saved thanks to Taylor swift and her impact.

Back in the day a song had to be a single to even chart on the hot 100. Every Madonna song to hit the top 20 was released as a single. Her album tracks weren’t eligible.

Shouldn’t it be officially released singles?! Not just songs that are streamed a bazillion times by 13 year olds. Artists from the era when Madonna started didn’t have the luxury of having every song from their new album being streamed. Back in those days you would listen to your new album over and over but no one kept track of how many times you listened to it. It doesn’t seem right today that when people are listening to their new album each song goes onto the charts, it should only be officially released singles. Also, while I’m here, doing a 15 second guest rap on someone else’s song should not count as a charted single for the guest rapper! One time I read Nicki Minaj has 93 charted singles…I thought to myself that is impossible until I found out that all her guest raps are treated as “her” single too. The criteria these days for charts is stupifying!
Everyone can agree that Madonna is a total b**** in every way possible. That being said, it hurts me to say, but “Vogue” alone eclipses all of Swift’s best songs combined.
