Nicki Minaj is trending on social media thanks to the latest drama on Queen Radio. But so too is Trina.
However, it’s for an altogether different reason.
Earlier today Reginald Saunders, Trina’s A&R, took to social media with a damning post branding Nicki a “deceiver” and a “manipulator.” All of which relating to their collaboration ‘BAPS’ from recently released album ‘The One.’
Now, Saunders has opened up more about the matter in an in-depth interview with Funky Dineva.
In the 17-minute interview, he unpacks issues surrounding the song’s video (or lack-thereof), the release of ‘Megatron’ on the same day as ‘BAPS,’ and more.

I agree. Trina is not about the drama. Trina and Nicki have been cool many years. If there was any fall out that was because of Onika not Trina. The A&R rep comes off as needy. You should not need Onika in a video to sell album copies or a single. For example, on Trina’s last album So Amazing there is a great track called Dangaling ? featuring Onika and Lady Saw. The song never had a video and to be honest a video for the song would not have sold more copies of the parent album despite the song being great. Same thing goes for Dangaling’s lessor BAPS (featuring Onika). The song is a great album song but does not need a video! The A&R Rep needs a reality check. Trina is a great legendary artist that is going to sell a certain number of albums no matter how much promo she gets. There is no need to badmouth Onika here and Onika is entitled to downtime and to pick and choose what type of publicity she does. Is the A&R going to pay Nicki for the video appearance? Likely no. I say find another single and market that!

I don’t normally get in on this stuff but I mean if Nicki did do it then yes its slighty shady but it’s nothing different then what other artists do. Shoot Beyonce always pops out with a single/movie/video right when another female artist is about to try and shine and we call her “Queen” Why is it that she has to wait to release something. When I saw the pic of nicki and meg on the set of the video I was like hmmm that’s interesting. Trina was on Queen radio and said to Nicki the fans want to know when the BAPS video is dropping. Nicki did say something about “scheduling” conflicts and what not without giving a straight answer. But I do find it interesting that she had time for a Meg video. SMH.

When Trina was on Queen Radio it was being alluded to that the reason the video was not done is because of Trina’s team not being on top of it and giving specific dates/times/shoot locations. Trina asked Nicki when they were going to do it and Nicki’s response was basically “I made time for it but your team was not ready so it has been pushed back on my schedule” She didn’t say it in those exact words because I’m sure she didn’t want to shade or embarrass Trina, but it was strongly alluded to. I got the feeling that Trina was asking Nicki to commit to something that she had not properly planned and executed herself.
Judging by Trina’s A&R you can see that things on that are messy and not professional so that isn’t a shock.
Trina does not need a spokesperson. If she felt like the issue needed to be addressed, she would have spoken up. He is being messy and that alone should cost him his job. That was so unprofessional and unnecessary.
Meg got the bigger push because she had a bigger budget and her A&R is doing their job. They secured the iHeart Radio deal, the streaming playlist, etc. That had nothing to do with Nicki. You see Meg’s team was on top of getting the song done and the video out of the way.
This song leaked over a month in advance, and I saw people on Twitter @’ing Trina telling her she should get her attorneys involved and have it removed from YouTube, but there didn’t seem to be any action from her team. Aside from that I think Trina is still in a 2000s mode of promotion.
A video wouldn’t have made a difference in reception of the song, the album as a whole did not do well at ALL, it debuted at 126.

Nothing about this surprises me. I am just sorry that Trina has to find out the hard way about how this chick really is and how she moves.
