In the eyes of many, Dua Lipa is the Pop girl to beat.
After cranking out her biggest hit to date, ‘Don’t Start Now,’ for her sophomore era christened ‘Future Nostalgia,’ the Brit-born beauty has been showered with critical acclaim for the effort’s Disco-cloaked offerings (i.e. ‘Physical,’ ‘Break My Heart,’ etc.) – all made available a week ahead of schedule due to an unexpected leak (as we reported here).
As the coronavirus pandemic made traditional promo for the LP an impossibility, Lipa’s improvised by upping her presence on social media via participation in a number of virtual concerts and interviews to build awareness around the project. At first glance, the approach seemed to be working as ‘Future’ dominated Spotify just minutes after it was made available on the streaming platform (click here to read more on that).
Second glance, however, suggests the schedule shake-up may have done more damage for Dua than previously expected. See what we mean inside:
Dua Lipa’s ‘Future Nostalgia’
First Week Sales Prediction (SPS): 55,000-60,000
First Week Sales Prediction (Pure): 15,000-18,000
First Week Chart Entry Prediction: #5-#9
A far cry from the 250,000-300,000 units industry analysts previously predicted the set would shift its inaugural week, if the projection above rings true the figures will still mark the highest opening sales and chart placement of Lipa’s career to date.
Besting the #86 premiere of her 2017 self-titled debut album (which eventually peaked at #27), ‘Future’ is on track to be her first appearance in the Billboard 200’s top 10.
