Dua Lipa’s Madonna & Missy Elliott-Assisted ‘Levitating’ Remix Misses Hot 100 in Premiere Week

Published: Wednesday 26th Aug 2020 by Rashad

Dua Lipa fans may have expected to see her new song, ‘Levitating,’ float to the Hot 100’s upper rankings thanks to its high profile features Madonna and Missy Elliott, but – as the refreshed edition of the tally reveals – such was not the case.

Details inside:

In late July (as we reported here), Lipa sent some into shock with the official report she’d be joined by the Rap Queen and Queen of Pop on the remix to ‘Levitating’ – a fan favorite from her sophomore album, ‘Future Nostalgia.’ The seismic collaboration would be one of many repackaged for the LP’s deluxe edition, ‘Club Future Nostalgia,’ which charges to digital shelves August 28.

Ahead of the new edition’s arrival, however, music lovers were given a listen to the revamp courtesy of the August 14 arrival of its accompanying video (seen above).  Those who gravitated to the sonic additions of Madge were sorely disappointed to see she was absent from the clip.

All-in-all, the hype proved to be little help in the tune’s chart journey.  Expected to premiere on the Hot 100 this week, peruse of the chart shows it actually debuted at #10 on the Bubbling Under list.

Bubbling Under Hot 100 This Week

Note:  The “Bubbling Under Hot 100” chart is designed to rank the top 25 songs that have accumulated noteworthy radio airplay, sales, and streams stats but not enough to place within the top 100.

All’s not lost, however.  Lipa was sure to confirm the Missy Elliott-assisted visual was NOT the tune’s official music video.  What she publishes next could help the Pop bop ascend to more promising positions on the hit list.

    😭😭😭

No payola , no hit for miss dulah peep.
All her songs are powered by very aggressive radio payola.

Dont get me wrong, she’s popular in Europe cause europe loves trashy dance music but nobody’s knows this girl in America

How can u have a top 2 hit the week u release ur album and ur album sells 18k pure sales and debuts at number 4

    She’s a payola queen

how can you have a #1 hit with America’s most wanted white meat, rely on fifty-leven album versions and still be outpaced by a virtual nobody, debut at #3, sell only 30k and then have your tour AXED? not postponed, not rescheduled, CANCELED?

Future Nostalgia is still charting and grabbing spins worldwide, where is Brokemance?

There’s a big fat Oops!!!! Should’ve released the original version. F-u-c-k that fat c-u-n-t blessed Madonna for ruining the song!

except for the body shaming part, I agree. her team did great for the album build-up but with the latest singles they’re kind of dropping the ball

this is a wake up call for her team, if she really wants to keep up momentum for this record until next year as she said she needs to listen to what her fans actually want and put on a gotdamn mask!

Levitating is the best song of Nostalgia. The (un)Blessing Madonna just ruined every chance of Dua to get another hit single. Her team is really lost with this. It would have been a smash single with a GREAT MUSIC VIDEO (as her previous on this album) with Madonna, Missy and Dua dancing together and having fun. A lot more money to spend, but isnt that worth it? Just ask Cardi B and Megan The Stallion (even with a tacky a** video)

I don’t understand why she didn’t have missy, Calvin or david Guetta produce the remix because nobody has heard of or wanted rosie o’donnell to produce the song! Just saying!

Sums up Dua Lipa to a T. Much like the remix and original song, devoid of character and personality. Missy is the best part of the whole thing. If it was a black artist with all that hype selling 18k, they’d be dropped from their label.

Cause its a white artist who is pencil thin and well connected, she gets preferential treatment like a whole remix album. * SMH *
