Aaliyah fans the world over took to social media Tuesday (August 25) to remember the singer-actress on what comes as the 19th anniversary of her untimely passing.
Only 22-years-old when she tragically died alongside seven others in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001, the GRAMMY-nominated star (born Aaliyah Dana Haughton) had just filmed the music video for her now-class single, “Rock the Boat.”
Among those honoring Haughton was her longtime collaborator/GRAMMY-winning singer-rapper-producer Missy Elliott.
Look inside for her heartwarming message.
Fans of Elliott know the hitmaker was given her big break when she – alongside Timbaland – were selected to contribute music to Aaliyah’s sophomore album, 1996’s ‘One in a Million.’
A critically acclaimed venture, the trio crafted groundbreaking R&B hits like ‘Hot Like Fire,’ ‘One in a Million’ (the song), ‘4 Page Letter,’ and more

Awww, this is so heartwarming ❤️ Aaliyah was just getting started even though she already had amazing success as a teenager…imagine what Aaliyah would sound like in 2020…well, like Missy said, basically the same! She was way ahead of her time, gone too soon 💯
