Pharrell and Jay-Z have been busy cooking up new music.
The pair is set to release their new collaboration, ‘Entrepreneur,’ on August 21 to coincide with the ‘Happy’ singer’s TIME cover package, ‘The New American Revolution.’
Details below…
The new issue of the magazine features conversations with Tyler the Creator and Angela Davis among others, where they discuss the systematic inequalities Black people have faced throughout the history of the United States.
The new collaboration reflects that in its lyrics:
“In this position with no choice / The system imprison young Black boys / Distract with white noise.“
Speaking to TIME about the song, Pharrell said:
“The intention for a song was all about how tough it is to be an entrepreneur in our country to begin with. Especially as someone of color, there’s a lot of systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages. How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?”
The song was produced by him and his Neptunes partner, Chad Hugo.
