‘Say So,’ the fifth single from her sophomore album ‘Hot Pink,’ could not only be classified as her personal breakthrough hit but may very well be the breakthrough tune of the year (among all artists). Blasting to #1 in May (with a little assistance from Rap Queen Nicki Minaj), the Dr. Luke-produced bop was etched in history for becoming the first all-female Rap collaboration to hit the top.
Chart-watchers bummed at news the song slipped out of the top 40 this week (for the first time since entering the chart region in March) will be sated with reports it’s been certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
On Friday (August 28), Cat learned her enduring hit had clawed its way to 3x Platinum status with the RIAA – a feat that denotes sales equivalence of over 3 million in the United States.
The second song of her career to earn a Platinum certification (following the Tyga-assisted ‘Juicy’), ‘Say’ now has the distinct honor of being her first multi-Platinum hit.
This personal milestone is one that is poised for extension as she’s set to give the song its awards show debut when she performs it live at the 2020 MTV VMAs Sunday (August 30). There, it’s also set to compete for ‘Song of the Year,’ ‘Best Direction’ and ‘Song of the Summer’ honors.
