After waging war on the music industry, Kanye West is now revealing his plan to Billboard to re-think it.
His words below:
“Free All Artists by any means necessary. I will work to rip apart the structure we are attached to that pays people for music. We cannot have designed streaming, but not designed a new method for payment and ownership around it where we all benefit.”
“I will help set precedents, I will help develop better royalty portals and deal shapes. I will design how this flows with them. It won’t just be an ecosystem & numbers.”
The rapper recently revealed that he is not putting out any more music until his contracts with Sony and Universal are done.

The only way I see this happening is to steer unsigned artists away from major (and often not-so-major) labels, and towards indie status.
Barriers to entry no longer exist. Anyone can publish, release, and distribute their own music. Plus, it’s not even necessary to do physical releases anymore.
The PROBLEM is that the competition is now as stiff as it ever was, just in a different way. Before, artists had to compete against other artists for company resources. Now, indies have to rely on their own resources and ingenuity to compete in an open market for views/clicks/streams.
