Stream: Ariana Grande’s New Album ‘Positions’

Published: Thursday 29th Oct 2020 by Rashad

Less than two years after dominating the Billboard charts with her fifth studio effort, ‘thank u, next,’ Pop diva Ariana Grande has already moved on to the next with its successor, ‘positions.’

A surprise of sorts as its arrival was just announced two weeks ago, the era that accompanies the 14-track project was kicked off by its title track (which is pacing for a historic #1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week).

Elsewhere on the LP, Ari shares song space with Doja Cat, Ty Dolla $ign, and even reconnects with her ‘Love Me Harder’ co-star The Weeknd,

Her absolute WORST album. Completely uninspired and lacking any growth or creativity. Her worst album used to be sweetener, but at least the singles from sweetener slayed. The label did a surprise release because they knew this would be DOA if they did a traditional rollout. JB is going to flop because he’s doing a traditional rollout with flop songs. Ari will have decent first week sales, then it’ll freefall. “7 rings” was her peak. She’ll wish she took a long break when this underperforms

    MESS

Damn, I use to think Arianna was talented but apparently she isn’t

She can sing but that’s about it

    This album is bad.

Reminds me so much of justin bieber’s changes
    So uninspired

  3. Hmmm… October 30, 2020

The album is boring. Little to No repeats/standouts.

    • Hmmm… October 30, 2020

A good 70% of it is in gibberish. Just like magic is cute and maybe only 1 or 2 other songs I wouldn’t mind if it played in the background while I’m pairing my socks, but no. And it’s hard to make an album about s**, be this boring. She could’ve done without Ty Dolla Sign (i don’t like hearing him) and The Weeknd singing on that duet?? “What was the reason?!?” He was a poor choice. It’s actually a good Shell for an album. If she had spent just another 4-6 months refining this album, it could’ve been SO much better. Instead she throws albums out and then abandons them when there’s no other songs worth making a single. This album will fall into oblivion before turkey day. I will be very surprised If it’s even relevant for that long tbh. It’s ok though, we’ll see her again in 3 months when she announces she’s dropping her 11th album…

I love ariana, but this album was rushed. I did a quick listen and there are no stand outs like NASA, goodnight and go, get well soon or even honey moon avenue. Its all seems very microwave. I thought this would be a great follow up to TYN, but im still undecided. Also most of these songs on here are in the 2 minutes range. Wtf.

Precisely why I’m not rushing for Sade, Adele, Maxwell, D Angelo, Janet, Mariah ect for an album because they’re about creating an actual Body of Art not microwavable/forgetful, hit today gone tomorrow soulless bs.

Honestly gonna have to give it several listens as everything thus far is luster and as above said nothing growth or artistic. Girl can sing but she lacs artistry. I’ve always found her soulless too.

Love the Album. It may not be her best album, but definitely TOP two. It gets better after a few listens. I like most of the songs. Overall faves are POV, Obvious, Just Like Magic, Safety Net, Positions , Off the Wall & Motive.

Lol Correction *Off the Table with The Weeknd. ❤️❤️❤️

When you lack artistry, creativity and have a bad team, you produce such a lacklustre album.
Grande shows no musical growth throughout the long 41 minutes of this album neither vocally or artistically.
To be fair, the second half of the album is better than the first (but only marginally) as it contains song that a maybe worth a second listen, but the familiar first half just sound like leftovers from her last two recently released albums (and not good left overs either)
Doja is unable to breath life into Motive, and doesn’t actually make it sound any better. The major start The Weekend doesn’t bring any energy to off the table, and their voices don’t compliment each other so it sounds like a match made for money.
Things pick up on what i would say is the best track on the album. Although Ty’s lyrics don’t fit with Ariana’s, the song moves along nice enough to warrant being added to a playlist.
my hair and love language are other stand out tracks, but Ariana lethargically sings over these along with the majority of the album that it doesn’t actually bring some excitement. I know that people are going to coo and gasp over the “whistle notes” but they don’t add any excitement and sound (in my opinion) sound too manipulated.

The issues is that Ariana was put on a pedal stool too soon into her career, but the fact is she isn’t a great singer or artist, but just a good singer with an image.

The album isnt bad but isnt great either.

There are a few things wrong with this album/approach:
When artists have their biggest career moments they start thinking they can throw whatever out there and “stay true to themselves” (which is code for using friends as writer, trying to write themselves and staying in their comfort zones) but ultimately this leads to an underperformance/downward trajectory.

If she wouldve labelled this a “mixtape” or side project everyone would change their tune – coupled with the fact that its 10 months since her Soundtrack album (which she sang 4-5 songs on) and 4-5 months since her 2 collab #1s this just wasnt the best time to release a full body of work. She also has the Mariah and Jennifer Hudson collab coming up – she really is pumping out the music this year.

The biggest change with this album is there is no Max Martin, Savan and Ilya. This is her first album since Yours Truly where there have been NO pop producers/tmax martin camp. My Everything had 5 songs from the tran, Dangerous Woman had like 10, Sweetner had 4-5, Thank U Next had 4 and the Charlies Angels album had 4 from her and the team also.

This album was majority tommy brown/rascals for which theyve worked with her on every album, however often on the non standout songs (aside from thank u next and 7 rings). This was the biggest change here – no big pop productions not even 1 song which is why everyone is feeling this way.

Veteran producers/writers like savan, max and Ilya care about song momentum, structure and build up – these songs however approach songwriting and making in a completly different way and it just didnt click her.

Heres hoping she goes back to them on her next album becuase these muted trap short songs are not what made her career and will not sustain it going forward.

The YT’s are shook by this album and MAD ABOUT IT 😂😂😂

YOU’RE IN THE HOOD NOW BABY. There’s a clear concept here and she delivered and all fronts. Y’all need to adjust your ears cause she is KILLING IT and y’all mad it ain’t that bubblegum pop stuff…

    Love it

    Why the rush??

    • musixxman96 October 30, 2020

Capitalising off of momentum (coming of TUN and 2 recent #1s), trend of the “quarantine” album, shes always recording and shes clearly inspired by Rihanna’s previous yearly album release strategy.
