That Grape Juice Top 5: New Femcees On Fire!

Published: Saturday 14th Nov 2020 by Hannah

The female Rap scene has seen the introduction of a wave of major names over the last decade. Artists like  Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and the City Girls have proven that they possess the lyrics, flow and aesthetic to back up their buzz.

Indeed their songs not only have us bopping in the car, but also have empowered many young women to be themselves… unapologetically.

After a lengthy drought and bewildering “one-at-a-time entrance policy,” the industry has been blessed with the emergence of so much talent unilaterally.

With all of this, there’s been an influx of new names making a splash – as well as a few that may have flown under the radar.

Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you covered.

Head below to check out That Grape Juice’s Top 5: New Femcees On Fire…

Flo Milli

Flo Milli first stormed onto the scene with her hit freestyle ‘Beef Flomix,’ which went viral on multiple platforms including TikTok and Instagram. The studio version of the song currently counts over 59 million streams on Spotify.

Milli later went to release her critically acclaimed debut mixtape ‘Ho, Why Is You Here?,’ which features bops such as ‘In the Party,’ ‘Weak’ and ‘Like that Bitch.’ The set has received much critical praise.

Her bubbly and exciting flow makes for the perfect GWRM playlist to get you hyped for the night and is paving the way for a fresh style of Rap. All at the age of 20!

Mulatto

Better known as Big Latto, Mulatto first made headway as a contestant on the series ‘The Rap Game,’ which she later went on to win. She made headlines for turning down the record deal and opted to go independent.

It’s proven a wise decision, as the femcee later went on to release the critically appraised single ‘Bitch from da Souf,’ which peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and certified Gold in the US. The single later went on to gain a remix with fellow rappers Saweetie and Trina.

Mulatto has also conjured up collaborations with artists such as Gucci Mane, Doja Cat, City Girls and Chloe x Halle. Her flow and delivery is flavor-filled and raw and has led to her being included on XXL’s 2020 Freshman Class and been recognised by her idol Nicki Minaj who labelled Mulatto “dope.”

She’s grown immensely over the last few years and has proved she isn’t one to play with.

Ivorian Doll

Ivorian Doll stands as the UK female Drill sensation who has found a way to make Drill feminine, whilst maintaining an incredible flow that magnetises all.

IVD was first known for being in a Rap duo in 2018, but then later went solo as has released the single ‘Rumours’ which has accumulated almost 5 million views on Youtube and over 4 million streams on Spotify.

She has also been featured on songs with artists such as Headie One, Br3nya, G4 Boyz and Saucy Santana. Her acclaim doesn’t stop there, as she became the first female artist to hit 1 million views on her explosive GRM ‘Daily Duppy.’

We will be keeping an eager eye on what she has incoming.

Songs To Listen To:

IVD Daily Duppy

CupcaKKe

CupcaKKe is not necessarily “new” to the scene, but definitely deserves a place on this list. Her wordplay and bars are arguably next to none and her delivery and flow are inimitable.

Her songs skew brazen, raunchy and unapologetic – making for the perfect uplifting banger.

If that isn’t enough to convince, she recently became the first black independent female rapper to ever hit Number 1 on iTunes US (All Genres) with single ‘Discounts.’

One name that undoubtedly deserves more attention.

Songs To Listen To:

Discounts
Elephants
Grilling Ni**as
Dangled

Jaye Naima

A Rap name who is new on the scene, but already boasts hits that have the girls bopping is Jaye Naima.

She set sail by posting her music on Soundcloud and gained much of her traction from social media platforms, building a loyal fanbase via that medium.

Naima’s sound is alternative and almost futuristic – her flow and hard-hitting beats mesh perfectly together and make for a fresh flavour of Rap.

Although she is relatively new on the Rap map, her music makes her prospects promising.

Songs To Listen To:

So What
PSA
Bad Bitch Position
Kitty Drop
Bubblegum

Honorable Mentions

Rubi Rose
Bree Runway
Shaybo
