In a huge move, Universal Music UK have officially announced the launch of 0207 Def Jam, a new frontline label and the UK home of the legendary Def Jam Records.
Comprised of a number of notable and accomplished names in the British music industry, the imprint is led by Ghanaian London-born twin brothers, Alec and Alex Boateng – who jointly serve as co-Presidents.

Building on the cutting-edge foundation established by the Def Jam parent label, the 0207 brand (which lifts the numerical part of its name from London’s telephone code) will serve as the home of the UK’s crème de la crème.
Initial signings are expected to be announced in due course.
In being led by the Boateng brothers, the label is in expert hands. For, both are highly respected figures and stand at the forefront of the Black music scene in the UK.
Alex has amassed 10 years at Universal Music UK, a tenure that included the role of president of Island Records’ Urban Division. He has been instrumental in campaigns and the careers of acts such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, Jessie J, and Tiwa Savage.
Alec has been a force at Warner Music, where he most recently served as as co-head of A&R at Atlantic. There, he spearheaded chart-topping wins for the likes of Stormzy, Rita Ora, and Jess Glynne. He has also been instrumental in the soaring rise of Burna Boy – whose latest album was just nominated for a GRAMMY.
The Boatengs have already installed top-tier talent at 0207: Amy Tettey is on-board as Managing Director, Char Grant is the label’s A&R Director, and Jacqueline Eyewe joins as Marketing Director. The much respected trio board 0207 from Island, BMG, and Atlantic respectively.

The news re-affirms UMG’s commitment to expanding on a global scale, after the establishment of Def Jam Africa.
