Keyshia Cole and Ashanti may have bulldozed the #VERZUZ viewership record with their long-awaited battle, but their spar was also notable for being drama-drenched.
Indeed, Cole’s lateness, breaks, and arguable frostiness once live saw her fall foul of favor with the audience – many of whom flooded their feeds to bemoan what they were witnessing.
Addressing the drama, the ‘Trust & Believe’ belter apologized and cited a number of factors behind the scenes as catalysts for the chaos.

Speaking with friend and fellow R&B singer Elijah Blake, Cole pointed to technical issues as the reason for her tardiness. But insisted she actually was on-hand.
She said:
“I want to apologize for not sitting my a** in that seat. OK? Because I was there and I should’ve sat down. I should’ve just sat in the seat no matter if I felt like the visual wasn’t clear. They said my music wasn’t gonna be right or whatever it was.”
After explaining that she didn’t want another Teddy Riley situation, she went on to say:
“I think, more so than anything, people wanted me to sit, be present…even though they didn’t know that I was present.”
