Just a week after learning she’d levitated to the second Hot 100 top 5 hit of her career (click here to read more), Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating‘ has risen to GOLD status at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Details inside:
On February 9, the RIAA updated its certification logs to reveal Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ – the third official single from her GOLD-certified sophomore album ‘Future Nostalgia’ – had reached GOLD status itself. The measure denotes sales of 500,000 in the United States.
A sleeper hit, the song first entered public consciousness on the wings of a Madonna & Missy Elliott-assisted remix (found aboard the ‘Future Nostalgia’ deluxe edition ‘Club Future Nostalgia’). Once that version missed the Hot 100 entirely (as we reported here), ‘Levitating’ was repackaged with hitmaking rapper DaBaby – a lucrative collaboration that fueled its upward movement on the chart.
Coupled with aggressive promotional efforts during 2020’s award season, the increased awareness led to improved radio airplay, digital downloads, and streams (with activity in the latter two categories aiding its newly awarded RIAA status).
‘Levitating’ is the 12th song of Lipa’s career to be certified Gold or higher.
