Anita Baker is getting support from her fellow A-lister Taylor Swift during her ongoing fight to gain control of her masters.
More details below…
Taking to Twitter, Baker wrote:
“Her creations bought & sold Again & Again, wouldnt even let her do *A Buy Out*…Taylor Swift *re-recording, her Catalog/Taylor’s Version. The GoodFight Go… Gurrrrl.”
The support from the music legend, then led the ‘Cardigan’ singer to respond, saying:
“I’m cheering you on in your fight to get back your work, and appreciate your support so much!! Thank you.”
Neither artist is a stranger to fighting for control of their masters. Swift had her own highly publicized battle over hers after Scooter Braun bought the rights to them for $300 million, which led her to re-record her old material.
As previously mentioned, Baker is now in the fight for her masters too. She appeared to launch her campaign over the concept of copyright reversion, a provision of U.S. copyright law that allows musicians and songwriters to regain control over works that were held by labels and/or publishers after a 35-year period. This would apply to her albums ‘Songstress’ and ‘Rapture.’
As the dispute continues, the ‘Sweet Love’ singer has asked fans to stop streaming her music (as we reported here).
In the meantime, we love to see the continued support behind Baker and support Swift for standing up for her.
