Lil Nas X is one of few artists who can boast seeing his first four singles certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) – especially ahead of delivering a debut studio album.
But, thanks to the ongoing success of his controversial new hit, ‘Montero’ (the title track from his summer 2021-due debut LP), the GRAMMY winner is well on his way to nabbing a fifth Platinum plaque and his second Hot 100 #1 single.

The Tanu Muino-directed venture may have ruffled the feathers of parents and religious groups due to being laden with sacrilegious imagery (including a scene where LNX gives Satan a lap dance), but it also garnered praise for its creativity and artistic daringness.
Chatter around the polarizing piece of both ilks kept it atop news cycles’ and Twitter’s trending list for days – a feat that only drew more eyes and ears to YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other major digital services. Soaring to #1 on each of the aforementioned platforms’ real-time sales or streaming tallies at least once over the past week, their combined performances are set to spell a #1 debut on next week’s Hot 100.
If accomplished, LNX’s tune will not only become the 51st song in the tally’s 62-year history to premiere in its pole position but it will boot Justin Bieber‘s ‘Peaches’ from the top spot in doing so.
The feat would also make the 21-year-old the second youngest male to ever debut atop the Hot 100 and will log the rapper-singer his second career chart-topper (following the gargantuan success of 2019’s ‘Old Town Road’).
