The Great 45: The Elite List of Hot 100 Hits to Debut at #1

Published: Wednesday 15th Apr 2020 by Rashad

With his latest hit, ‘Toosie Slide,’ Canadian rapper Drake became the second artist in history to debut a single atop the Hot 100 three times over his career – an accomplishment only ‘Queen of Billboard’ Mariah Carey could boast at the time.  Later, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande were able to as well (click here to read more).

Granted, the feat of nabbing multiple openings at the tally’s summit is ultra rare, but many will be surprised to know – even in the current era of streaming – how infrequently any act has premiered a song at the hitlist’s peak position at any point in his or her career. In fact, among the 1,098 #1 hits in Hot 100 history (which dates to Aug. 4, 1958), only 37 of them debuted at the top.

To celebrate Drizzy’s latest addition to the growing index, That Grape Juice thought it a great time time to salute the hitmakers who broke the ground before him.

On another high note, “stupid love” by GaGa has officially fallen out of the top 200 on Spotify. That stupid b*tch. This generation will forget about GaGa…this is the end. Watch!

    • ERIC April 15, 2020

The list is for songs that entered the Hot 100 at #1. “That’s the Way Love Goes” entered the Hot 100 at #14, and “Again” didn’t debut at #1 either.

  13. I Hate Blllacck n Whyyyte bitchezz April 15, 2020

Yes Whitney Houston charted to #1 in November 1995 even after she went into film..Whitney The Houston last greatest diva living or dead…. Nobody can sing like Whitney Houston..

    • Blabla bla April 16, 2020

      Go Stream her moronella

  14. Paulo April 15, 2020

My thoughts are that hype pre-release doesn’t beat overall chart success cause a lot of iconic artists have made this list with songs that are far from being their best or most remarkable.

And also that Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks standing next to Fantasia and Carrie is f***** up. Justice for Kath McPhee

  15. I Hate Blllacck n Whyyyte bitchezz April 16, 2020

Whitney still up on them charts
Whitney name is still up on the charts for #37 Elite …….

  17. Del April 16, 2020

This list just shows how easy it is to open at #1 compared to the previous decade that had achieved bonafide, memorable #1 hits

  18. Ask4yall November 7, 2020

All that hype and no Beyoncé. Who she thinks she is fooling????
