During a Q&A with fans, the actress was quizzed on her musical tastes.
Sitting alongside her wife Miranda Pearman-Maday shared choice words about which genres and artists she doesn’t listen to.

When asked whether she raps Nicki Minaj lyrics, Symone proceeded to stress that she doesn’t listen to “ratchet” music. She went on to explain that she and her wife are “creative thinkers,” so “ratchet” and “abrasive” music tends to “clutter our brains.”
Elsewhere, she shared that she prefers listening to Elton John.

Just because she is black doesn’t mean she has to listen to Nicki Minaj. She doesn’t say she never does if you listen to the whole sessions. It’s just not her go-to music choice

The “creative thinkers” comment was so extra lol but she didn’t say anything crazy. How many black grandmothers and Aunties would say the same. Everybody has their personal preference.
Everybody has their preference but to say Nicki’s music is ratchet and abrasive is abit much… especially when you’re looking like you need a wash.
I would call a lot of the music today reckless and ignorant, but I never really like the vibe Raven gives off when she talks about things. I still love her as an actress though.

I would have to agree with her on that. I’d rather listen to Elton John, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, George Micheal, Jonathan Butler, Billy Ocean,Lionel Richie, Jeffrey Osborne, etc. over Nicki Minaj or ratchet music any day. Can’t take the ratchet stuff, not real music IMO.
Sorry Raven, listening to ballads doesn’t make you a ‘creative thinker’. You simply do not like Nicki Minaj. Also Raven is not aging well at all. She’s actually younger than Nicki & Brandy.
I agree with your overall point that listening to a certain type of music doesn’t necessarily mean you are a creative thinker (but I don’t think that’s what she was saying; I think she just meant that she can’t hear herself think when certain music is on, a point to which I can relate). Also, I don’t know about the other stuff she was naming but when it comes to Elton John (or most artists period) I don’t think of just “ballads”. Elton has a lot of of mid to up tempo hite as well like “Benny and the Jets”, “Don’t Go Breakin My Heart”, “I’m Still Standing”, “Crocodile Rock”, “Sad Songs”, etc.

Maybe that’s what she meant, I dunno. For me it seemed she was implying that she’s a creative thinker due to her taste in music. Her comments came across as shade. Before Raven tied the knot, she made a lot of abrasive comments. So I don’t understand why she’s acting as if Nicki Minaj is too ratchet for her now. The smug attitude is the issue.
Point taken, it did sound like shade which is crazy since she’s a former rapper herself.
