Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.
However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.
This week, we want to highlight cuts from Victoria Justice, Sigrid, Sarah Barrios, and Picture This.
Join us inside…
Victoria Justice – Too F****n’ Nice
The star of the Nickelodeon show ‘Victorious,’ Victoria Justice is ready for her return to the spotlight and with her latest single, she may get there. Built around distorted guitars, thumping synths, and a clap beat, ‘Too F****n’ Nice’ sees the former teen star lyrically explore the difficulties of being too nice. A delicious slice of West Coast Pop, ‘Too F****n’ Nice’ is Justice’s shining return to the spotlight and an even more brilliant statement.

Sigrid – Mirror
All rise for the stunning return of Norway’s brightest star, Sigrid. No stranger to emotional anthems, she delivers another one and arguably one of her best. After the “resurgence” of disco over the past year with artists such as Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue, Sigrid does them one better on this groovy track. Lush strings, dancing synths, and a clap-based backbeat, this track was built for roller rinks and bell-bottom jeans in the best way possible. A true ode to Disco, from one of Pop’s most dazzling artists, ‘Mirror’ as authentic and dazzling as the star who made it.

Sarah Barrios – I H8 EVERY1
Sarah Barrios has been making waves with her brand of sleek, acoustic-leaning Pop and now she is ready to send a tsunami through the industry with her latest song ‘I H8 EVERY1.’ Just as Disco has made a comeback, so has Pop-punk and this song is the perfect showcase as to why. A rip-roaring guitar opens this track and it only gets more intense from there as the pulsating drums come in, giving this song the heartbeat of a true Pop-punk anthem. A contender for one of the best songs of the year, ‘I H8 EVERY1’ is an anthem for the ages that will surely go down in the Pop-punk history books.

Picture This – If Ever However Whenever Forever
Irish Pop-rock band Picture This has been putting out bangers for the last few years and their latest could be their strongest release yet. Soft guitars pave the way for Ryan Hennessy‘s voice to float over the atmospheric synths. Contemplative and emotional, ‘If Ever However Whenever Forever’ is the perfect song for those nights alone and evokes visions of sitting on the beach as the sun sets gently over the rolling waves. Simply put, if the dictionary included a song next to the word “gorgeous” it would be this one.
