The Weeknd‘s gargantuan hit, ‘Blinding Lights,’ shows no signs of dimming its shine on the Hot 100 any time soon.
As we previously reported, the Max Martin-produced tune – the second single from Weeknd’s 2020 #1 album ‘After Hours’ – is penciled in history books for being the longest-running top 5 and longest-running top 10 hit in Billboard history.
Now, thanks to endurance in the tally’s top 20 region, it’s listed for yet another seemingly untouchable feat. Details inside:
Upon notching its 77th week of charting last week, ‘Blinding Lights’ became the longest-charting song by a solo act in the 62-year history of the Hot 100. It bested the 76-week run of previous record-owner Jason Mraz‘s 2008 hit ‘I’m Yours.’
Overall, only two other songs can boast a longer tenancy on the tally: ‘Radioactive’ (Imagine Dragons – 87 weeks) and ‘Sail’ (AWOLNation – 79 weeks). Unlike the aforementioned tunes, The Weeknd’s cut spent the extreme majority of its tenure inside the Hot 100’s top 20.
In fact, this week – it’s 78th of charting – ‘Lights’ bounced back into the top 20 after a brief exit and is found at #17. Look below to see who joins it in this week’s ‘TGJ Chart Check: Hot 100.’
