Monica Talks Future of ‘Friends & Family Hustle’ / Says New Album ‘Trenches’ Drops This Summer

Published: Thursday 17th Jun 2021 by Rashad

‘Rolling Stone,’ ‘Associated Press,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ ‘Access Hollywood,’ and ‘People’ are just a few of the high profile outlets graced by GRAMMY-winning Monica in promotion of her new true crime series, ‘Infamy.’

The VH1 show, which premiered June 7th, was among many burning topics the R&B diva tackled over the last few weeks as she raced through a slew of media appearances.

With other subject matter ranging from her serially-delayed ninth studio album, ‘Trenches,’ to the future of her other VH1 endeavors, Mo left few stones unturned across her promotional promenade.

Recently taking to ‘Rolling Stone’ (as seen above), Monica dished on her new album as well as her new Apple Music radio show, ‘Mo Talk.’

“My album and ‘Mo Talk’ will come this summer,” Mo revealed at the 26:07 mark. “As soon as I start airing the episodes and sharing with you guys, I’m going to start releasing the music.”

Originally due Thanksgiving 2020 before being pushed back to January 2021 and later an undisclosed date (as we reported here), the quote serves as the latest update for the studio effort, the follow-up to 2015’s ‘Code Red.’ When asked to describe ‘Trenches’ conceptually, Mo revealed:

“‘Trenches’ embodies two of my records in particular: ‘Miss Thang’ and ‘After the Storm,'” she said at the 15:00 mark before sharing how Pharrell Williams came up with the album’s title.

Later speaking on ‘Mo Talk’ specifically, the songstress said:

“We’re toying with the dates, but we’re not far from it – let me be real clear.  The sets have been built, the staff is in place, everyone is ready. It will be [here] before the summer is gone.”

While Monica’s relationship with VH1 thrives courtesy of the hit new series, ‘Infamy,’ some were curious about the status of her other reality venture with the network, ‘T.I. & Tiny’s Friends & Family Hustle,’ given the show’s suspended status after sexual assault allegations arose against T.I. & Tiny.

Taking to our friends at Associated Press (seen at the 1:40 mark in the video above), Mo waxed honest about her future participation on that series.

“It was a great experience up until the last season,” she said before continuing, “I’m having to assess if that’s a world for me period as a whole because of the way I nurture my family…I do appreciate the kind of business VH1 did with us which means my relationship with them will be consistent. It will be ongoing; that won’t end.  But, it may transition into other things like ‘Infamy.'”
