It’s back. It’s lit. And, most importantly, it’s live!
The credits have rolled on the 2021 BET Awards and, as ever, you know That Grape Juice brought you the performances shortly after they aired on television.
The Taraji P. Henson-hosted ceremony – which celebrates its 21st year of honoring the achievements of people of color in music, sports, movies, TV, and more – shined with sizzling performances from H.E.R., Migos, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Nas X, City Girls, and many more.

K the lil nas s*** is getting old. We get it youre gay, now what else can you do?
Not a damn thing, LOL. I was completely UNDERWHELMED with stiff Lil Nas X and one friend said “you should be happy with the representation”. I was like “Nah, that boy SUCKS as a performer!!!!” As problematic as he is, Todrick Hall is MUCH BETTER at that shtick than NAS X might ever be. From a performance standpoint, that is…
Silk Sonic brought some real music and real class to the show, as did Queen Latifah. Before that, the night was doomed by too many artists who are about nothing else but shock value.
Jazmine is always on point.
Side note: When Cardi did the squat while rapping, I saw lil Kim. When Megan did the squat, I saw kim again. She really is the blueprint.
Right because no one remembers any of Lil Kim songs we just remember her p**** popping on a handstand wow what a legacy!
4 R&B performances and 2 were duets, one Gospel performance that just had to include a rapper. The BET Awards are NOTHING but the grand version of their Hip-Hop Awards, 🤷🏾♂️. You used to get a wide variety of black Hip-Hop, Gospel, R&B, Neo-Soul, Adult Contemporary, Pop, and Jazz. Now, if you don’t like Trap inspired music, you basically have no reason to watch. Ppl wonder why big celeberties and mainstream artist no longer support but here the reason. The show is built around supporting one demographic.
They saved all of that for the DJ Cassidy after show. Musiq, Sunshine Anderson, Tamia, Mya, Ashanti… that’s the kind of music I was really missing from the 3-1/2 hour show.
Pass the MIC WAS good!!!!! And I agree, some of THOSE artists should have been on the actual award show…
I mean no star power. BET has truly fallen from grace…. They might as well have gotten people from Instagram to perform at this point.
I mean that’s not hers fault they brought out the supposed hottest black acts…y’all keep blaming the awards shows but their production values nor politics haven’t changed since the good days. What has changed? The quality of music.
I meant to say that’s not BETs fault.
Enjoyed HER (solo), Jazmine & Ari, Latifah tribute, Andra Day, Tone Stith, and Cardi (tuned out Migos).
