Stream: H.E.R.’s Debut Album ‘Back of My Mind’

Published: Thursday 17th Jun 2021 by Rashad

As the long-awaited arrival of her debut album evinces, Gabriella Wilson, better known by her stage name H.E.R., has had one of the most unique launches in music history.

At just 23-years-young, the songstress – well on her way to veteran status – not only already boasts a lengthy catalog of chart-topping EPs and compilation albums but also has a mantel full of industry honors that includes an Academy Award, numerous GRAMMYs, and more.

Now, she’s only putting the cherry on top with her inaugural LP – ‘Back of My Mind.’

Soaring onto digital shelves on the wings of housed tunes ‘Hold On,’ ‘Come Through,’ ‘My Own,’ and her highest charting hits as a leader to date, ‘Slide’ and ‘Damage,’ ‘Mind’ comes as a 21-track effort that sees H.E.R. take center stage as performer, writer, and producer while also calling on help from industry friends Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Baby, DJ Khaled, and more.

Curious to see what the collective cooked up for Wilson’s first official swing at bat?  Look inside:

23 must be her industry age because she looks much older. I’ll pass on the album. I can’t deal with her one note voice and sleepy music😴

I’m sorry but the album thus far is lacking. I’ve only enjoyed perhaps Paradise, s*** her first two EPs should’ve been the debut album as many of us had said prior because this isn’t anything to write home about- Summer Walker and Ari Lennox had better debuts musically than this including Tinashe too.

I think she should’ve cut half the songs and pared it down to the ones that have more variation in the music and vocals. When her voice can go where it did when she sang at the Super Bowl, I am truly baffled about her limiting herself to the monotonous sound on this album. The closest thing to her letting loose and having fun is “I Can Have It All”. The album needs more of that.
