Dua Lipa may have ascended to the top of the charts with ‘Levitating’ collaborator DaBaby, but that isn’t stopping her from voicing her disgust at the homophobic remarks he made about gay people at Rolling Loud Miami.
As reported, the MC shocked the fans at the festival, when he randomly said:
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, then put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d**k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
In the time since, the backlash has grown enormously – particularly after the rapper seemingly doubled down on his comments while ironically trying to extinguish the flames of anger.
Now, as the fury burns hotter, Lipa is the latest name to weigh in.
Her words below…
Addressing the drama, the singer took to Instagram Stories and wrote:
“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognise this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
Lipa’s comments undoubtedly mirror the mass sentiment, unlike the ignorance spewed by embattled rapper T.I.
As reported, he defended DaBaby and bizarrely tried to make a correlation between his words and the lyrical liberation of queer performer Lil Nas X.
