Jennifer Hudson continues to create anticipation for her upcoming role as music legend Aretha Franklin in the biopic ‘Respect.’
This time around, she is taking on one of Franklin’s signature hits ‘(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman.’ Written by the iconic Carole King, the song reached a peak of #8 under Franklin’s guidance.
Now, the track continues to give buzz to Hudson’s much anticipated role in ‘Respect.’
Previously, she shared the track ‘Here I Am (Singing My Way Home),’ which was also written by King.
With ‘Respect’ set to debut in theaters on August 13, you can now listen to the latest taste of what’s to come with ‘Natural Woman’ below…
Alot of ppl don’t like the Idea of Jennifer playing Aretha simply because she doesn’t sound anything like Aretha in her singing voice. Every songs she sings sound like the character Effie in Jennifer’s body, which is a testament of her ability to bring a characters story to life. This rendition of the song, unfortunately, puts fire behind those claims. Jennifer voice is TOO HEAVY, her tone is TOO BRASY, her technique is TOO DIFFERENT, her approach is TOO COUNTRY. Jennifer may can act out the part, but she simply cannot capture the essence of Arethas voice. They share no similarities❗
Agreed 💯
I wasn’t all that excited at first, but this rendition pushed me over the fence. I think Jennifer absolutely captures the right spirit, attitude, energy and personality in this vocal. Aretha saw and heard so much of herself in Jennifer that she wanted no one else for the part, so who can argue against that? And what would be the alternative? A bad lip-sync like Viola’s in ”Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”?
@eric
what you said….
What about a good lip sync like Angela Bassett in What’s Love Got to Do With It so that we could hear Aretha’s real, one of a kind voice? And Jennifer was not Aretha’s first or even second choice. She settled on Jennifer. Jennifer was among at least four other considerations with Halle Berry being the first choice. I love Aretha but the fact that she ever considered Halle discredits her casting abilities IMO. But I do believe that Jennifer is the best choice out all the other names that were considered. But if she had held auditions, who knows what unknown talent that could have been discovered. My preference will always be a top of the line actress who can lip sync really well. That way you get good acting along with original vocals. Jennifer sounds pretty good, but ain’t nothin’ like the real thing.
B I t c h don’t scream💅🏿
*In theaters August 13th‼️
Wow!!! It was more Aretha than Jennifer- I’m pleasantly surprised!!
💯🔥
Excited to see the movie now. I was skeptical at first…
Not bad, not Aretha either though, which is to be expected. Jennifer sounds like Jennifer, as can be expected. It doesn’t seem like she was trying to sound like Aretha, if she was then she failed. But if she was trying to sound like a more controlled version of herself who studied a couple of Aretha’s vocal tendencies then she succeeded. She just has a different tone from Aretha and as the song went along, Jennifer’s tone stood out more and more, not as controlled and toned down as in the beginning. I’m just not a fan of Jennifer’s tone, I’d rather hear Aretha’s voice on Aretha’s songs.
We know she can sing; should have used Aretha’s vocals and lipsynced.
I’m shocked!!! I don’t like the song at all. It’s boring and I can’t believe Carol pinned it. All I hear is Effie 🤦🏽♂️
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL as well as STUNNING, sometimes it just feels like the original was the best, and then here JENNIFER comes and makes it even better. AWESOME arrangement and her style of singing compares to the best thank you Jennifer for keeping ARETHA’S memories alive and starting new ones of your own. SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!
