With just a week separating fans of Aretha Franklin from the August 13 premiere of her big screen biopic, ‘Respect’ (click here to watch the trailer), the film’s star – Academy & GRAMMY Award-winning songstress Jennifer Hudson – is pounding the promo pavement something serious in its support.
Tackling screen, print, Web, and radio, the ‘Spotlight’ singer is leaving few stones unturned as she shines a spotlight on the life and times of one of music history’s most celebrated figures.
And while the bulk of her interview topics have ranged from personal memories with the Queen of Soul to tackling Franklin’s legendary songs, Hudson’s also made headlines for her comments on unrelated, yet equally sizzling topics.
Case in point? ‘VERZUZ.’

While chatting it up at V103 Atlanta recently, J.Hud was quizzed about her thoughts on the wildly popular ‘VERZUZ’ platform. After expressing her appreciation of the cultural phenomenon, she was asked if she would participate in a hit-for-hit duel with fellow ‘American Idol’ alum Fantasia.
‘That’s a dope idea,’ Hudson said before later continuing, ‘that’s a beautiful idea; maybe one day we can make that happen.’
Later in the video (as captured by our friends at TSR), the ‘Walk It Out’ singer walked through her list of ‘VERZUZ’ wishlist participants. Click PLAY above to hear it.

I love me some JHud but this would be like charity work for Fantasia, who’s hits go for miles in comparison to JHud.
Aside from the oscar win and DreamGirls being the signature role of her career, Jennifer is slightly overrated tbh and frank.
She only outshined Fantasia due to making smart career choices and navigating the opportunities given to her better.
Fantasias downfall appears to be low class men who do nothing for her career or growth but sheesh…the girl is talented asf though.
Let me start off by saying Fantasia is my favorite artist as of now, so there is definitely no hate in my response, only realism.
I think that would be a dope idea, but honestly speaking, both ladies don’t have enough body of work to do a 20 round session. They would have to get creative with the concept. Some crafty work-around would be to work in some of their American Idol performances. Also, utilize the pending Aretha movies and have both ladies do a couple of rounds singing Aretha tracks. And followed it with some of their album cuts. Tasia got like 10 jams that everyone is familiar with. I think Jen should have same.
