The Pop Stop: Hayley Kiyoko, Niall Horan, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Saturday 20th Nov 2021 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Hayley Kiyoko, Niall Horan, Foxes, and Calum Scott.

Join us inside…

Hayley Kiyoko – Cherry

Having been affectionately dubbed “Lesbian Jesus,” Hayley Kiyoko has returned to save us all once more with her latest song, ‘Cherry.’ A rousing synth-pop anthem, the song also features fellow queer icon Fletcher. In short, Kiyoko and Fletcher have created one of the best LGBTQ+ anthems of the year and a future staple in both of their catalogues.

Niall Horan – Everywhere

Former One Direction member Niall Horan is back with another new tune, this time around it is a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s classic song ‘Everywhere.’ While taking on a Fleetwood Mac song is nearly impossible, Horan does so with as much ease and skill as the original. With an assist from Anne-Marie, the two have single-handedly created a cover as classic as the original.

Foxes – Sky Love

With their new album ‘The Kick’ coming out in February of 2022, Foxes have created anticipation that is sky-high with their song ‘Sky Love.’ The tune is a pounding anthemic piece, complete with handicaps, keyboards, and heart-pounding synths. Easily a contender for one of the best synth-pop songs of the year, ‘Sky Love’ is Foxes at their absolute peak.

Calum Scott – Love Is Just A Word

What do you do when love is just a word, because you feel so much more? Well, Calum Scott and Jasmine Thompson explore this question on their latest song ‘Love Is Just A Word.’ A sweeping piano ballad, the song comes complete with delicate strings to boot. A tear-jerker from start to finish, both Scott and Thompson have outdone themselves with this song. A song about love, the pair have created a tune as beautiful as the word itself.
