Published: Saturday 22nd Jan 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Charlie Puth, Conan Gray, Sigrid, and Years & Years.

Join us inside…

Charlie Puth – Light Switch

After ample teasing across social media – especially TikTok – Charlie Puth has finally unleashed his tune, ‘Light Switch.’ It’s a propulsive pop song, complete with a funky bass line, 80’s-inspired synths, and layered falsetto. All about coming back to someone despite trying to walk away, Puth has found himself unable to turn off his desire. Fun and oh, so catchy, Puth has created a song that will surely light up the charts.

Conan Gray – Jigsaw

Conan Gray continues to release banger after banger, and his new tune ‘Jigsaw’ is no different. The song details the downfall of a toxic relationship with such poignancy and devastation that when the rocking guitar line comes in on the chorus, the listener is immediately torn to shreds in a sea of emotions. Easily one of the best songs from this month, ‘Jigsaw’ continues to prove why he is one of music’s brightest stars.

Sigrid – Head On Fire

What happens when two pop stars unite? Pure magic. Case in point, Sigrid’s most recent single – ‘Head On Fire’ – which features Griff. Absolutely transcendent, the tune is complete with danceable synths, pounding drums, and hints of strings across it. One of the best song’s from both singer’s catalogues, ‘Head On Fire’ is true pop decadence.

Years & Years – Sooner Or Later

Released on Years & Years most recent album, ‘Night Call,’ the song ‘Sooner Or Later’ is one of their best in recent years. Heart-pounding beats, twinkling synths, and heavy bass guide the track as lead singer Olly Alexander reminisces on a failed relationship and the revenge he seeks. The best song on ‘Night Call,’ ‘Sooner Or Later’ is proof that Years & Years is one of the mot dynamic pop groups out there.
