Despite rendering some of modern R&B’s most revered numbers over the last 15 years (see: ‘Need U Bad,’ ‘Lions, Tigers, & Bears,’ ‘Bust Your Windows,’ ‘Let It Burn,’ & more), R&B songstress Jazmine Sullivan has not historically seen that work recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
However, with the release of her 2021 EP ‘Heaux Tales,’ the 34-year-old’s been seeing her name penciled there in more ways than ever before.
See what we mean inside:
On Tuesday (February 8), just days before the release of the ‘Heaux Tales’ deluxe edition, the RIAA took to press to announce one of the project’s housed tunes – the H.E.R.-assisted ‘Girl Like Me’ – had met the organization’s qualifications for GOLD certification. This means it’s sold the equivalence of 500,000 copies in the United States alone.
With its #97 peak on the Hot 100, ‘Girl’ was the second-highest charting single from ‘Tales’ (following the critically acclaimed cut ‘Pick Up Your Feelings’). As of time reported, ‘Feelings’ and ‘Girl’ hold the distinction of being Sullivan’s only two singles certified by the RIAA.
The ‘Tales’ tracks are just a couple of the many Jazmine fan favorites that will be performed on the singer’s forthcoming North American tour. Click here for dates.
No thanks… I rather listen to Shakira ‘s demon possession vocal on girl like me💅🏾
I wouldn’t brag about it. How embarrassing. After almost 15 years in the game.
Nothing embarrassing about it! Most artists are irrelevant after 15 years but Jazmine came back out swinging. It’s actually commendable but you’re hating ass loves to hate.
That’s just it – she was always irrelevant.
Zzzzz just no
She could not compete with Jill Scott .
Jazmin was just ok in the past…her voice and vocals were just okay…she sounds so much better vocally and her much is miles ahead of what she produced in the past. I can’t play her old stuff 🤷🏽♂️
Ummm what Jazmine are you talking about? Her voice is just as amazing as it was in 2008.
