Dua Lipa has found herself in hot water.
For, the pop superstar is now facing a second lawsuit over her song ‘Levitating.’
Full story below…
In a complaint filed on March 4, songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer accused Lipa of copying their 1979 song ‘Wiggle and Giggle All Night’ and 1980 song ‘Don Diablo.’ They claimed that the opening melody to ‘Levitating’ was a “duplicate” of the melody to their songs.
Lawyers for Brown and Linzer said:
“Defendants have levitated away plaintiffs’ intellectual property. Plaintiffs bring suit so that defendants cannot wiggle out of their willful infringement.”
Brown and Linzer specifically pointed to interviews where Lipa had “admitted that she deliberately emulated prior eras” and “took inspiration” from earlier music to create a throwback sound.
The accusers wrote:
“In seeking nostalgic inspiration, defendants copied plaintiffs’ creation without attribution.”
The case also lists Warner Music Group and Dababy as defendants.
The most recent lawsuit comes mere days after Lipa was hit with the first of the suits from a Florida reggae band named Artikal Sound System (as we reported here). They claimed that Lipa copied their track called ‘Live Your Life.’
