Kanye West‘s ‘Donda 2’ was notably absent from the charts this week.
Now, it has been revealed why the project cannot be seen.
More details below…
According to Billboard, because the project is only available via his Stem Player, it is in breach of the Billboard charts’ merchandise bundle policy, which disqualifies albums that come with merch.
“Since the Stem Player is a fairly new concept, however, people familiar with the matter from both Billboard and MRC say they plan to continue to monitor its evolution as it relates to chart eligibility.”
Despite this, West claims that the launch of his album on the device has been successful, claiming that he made over $1.3 million in sales after announcing that ‘Donda 2’ would only be available on the device.
However, in a new update to the device, those who purchased one will now be able to upload ‘Donda 2’ tracks to their phones and computers.
The original ‘Donda’ was a success for West. The project debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, where it scored the biggest opening for a project released in 2021 at that time. It would later be bested by Drake‘s ‘Certified Lover Boy,’ Taylor Swift‘s ‘Red (Taylor’s Version),’ and Adele‘s ’30.’
