As R&B veteran Maxwell is making headlines for dropping it low on stages across America on his hotly-selling ‘Night’ tour, his latest single, ‘Off,’ is getting high on the Billboard charts to historic measure.
See what we mean inside:
Over 20 years after watching ‘Fortunate’ become his first #1 single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, the 48-year-old has been crowned the chart’s king for the eighth time of his career with ‘Off.’ The tune serves as the lead single from his forthcoming ‘blacksummers’NIGHT’ album (the third in a trilogy of the same name).
With the ascension, the ‘Ascension’ singer makes history by entering a tie with legendary singer Charlie Wilson for the most #1s on the chart among male acts. Overall, only Toni Braxton (11) and Alicia Keys (12) have more chart-toppers on the tally.
What’s more, Max is now the first male act in the chart’s history have a #1 single in four distinct decades: 90’s, 00’s, 10’s, and ’20s. The only other act to achieve such is Braxton.
