In today’s musical climate, streaming is very much leading as the main metric mobilizing songs to the top of the charts.
There are, however, a select few releases that buck the trend and ascend on their own accord.
Case in point Latto and her commercial breakthrough ‘Big Energy’ – the success of which has largely been fuelled by radio.
Now, the bouncy has bop has hit a new high; one that sees Latto make history in the process.
This week ‘Energy’ hit #1 on Pop radio.
Beyond being the femcee’s first chart-topper on the tally, it sees her become only the second female in 12 years to reach pole position on the Pop, Rhythmic and Urban radio counts.
The 23-year-old is only the second female rapper to achieve the multi-format feat – with Doja Cat being the first.
In doing so, she joins an elite list of females – such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey – to have hit #1 on all three formats.
Notably, Latto linked up with the latter for a remix of ‘Energy’ – which has helped boost the track even more.
