‘Should’ve Known Better’ takes on a new meaning for GRAMMY-winning diva Monica as she put a reporter in his place for bad-mouthing African American attendees of the recently-aired CMT Music Awards.
As we reported here, the songstress was on hand at this year’s ceremony (April 11) to not only deliver a moving performance of ‘Pray’ alongside Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town but to also confirm she is hard-at-work on her first Country album.
And while her showing was met with rave reviews, one critic – reporter Patrick Howley – made headlines for his stinging disapproval of her appearance in general.

Howley, a Right-wing political reporter whose polarizing commentary has landed him in headlines in the past, got a different kind of attention when he bemoaned the inclusion of African American attendees at this year’s CMT Music Awards.
“I don’t know who this Black guy is who’s hosting it. It’s supposed to be country music,” Patrick said in reference to actor Anthony Mackie. “No offense. I mean, y’all have Hip Hop and basketball. You know what I mean,” he said later.
His racist mockery didn’t stop there, however.
“There were so many Black people there,” he said (as seen in the video above). “Sorry to say, but so many Black celebrities who have nothing to do with country music and it’s like—why?”
Once his statements got to the desk of Monica, she wasted no time hitting back.
“I’ve never been more motivated.. Patrick Howley, although your feelings are likely shared by some, it’s NOT by the masses! I have an all star LEGENDARY team of true country artist that are currently working with me that would beg to differ ! Because of the genuine hearts of @lesliefram1 & @cmt … I shared the stage w/ @jimmieallen & @littlebigtown …This was the first of many times that you will see me! I see You caught that my skin is melanated, but you missed that it was tough,” she said. “I’m rooted in the word & built to last ! Monica Stan didn’t lie. BET stands for Black Entertainment Television, not ONLY Black Entertainment Televsion. It was started because MTV, VH1 and others refused to play our music videos.
