The saga of drama around this year’s Coachella headliners continues to play out.
Case in point, a new report is alleging that The Weeknd is now threatening to drop out of his spot.
More details below…
According to Page Six, the ‘Blinding Lights’ singer is demanding the same $8.5 million paycheck as Kanye West.
A source told the publication:
“The Weeknd came in at short notice to take Kanye’s top spot. But Phil Anschutz [who owns the Coachella Festival through AEG Live] wanted to hold on to Kanye’s money and pay The Weeknd far less, just a few million. The festival would pocket the rest.”
The source goes on to claim that even though The Weeknd was announced as a headliner, the deal wasn’t allegedly in place just yet. As a result, he has allegedly threatened to pull out in an hour’s notice if he does not receive the same pay as West.
However, it appears as though things have tuned in The Weeknd’s favor as the source goes on to say:
“Finally, on Wednesday — faced with the prospect of a second headline act pulling out of Coachella at the last minute — Anschutz’s company caved and agreed to pay The Weeknd the same money.”
As of reporting, neither The Weeknd’s, Anschutz’s, nor West’s reps have responded to the new allegations.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that The Weeknd would be replacing West as a headliner for Coachella (as we reported here).
