Coachella 2022: The Weeknd & Swedish House Mafia Officially Replace Kanye West as Headliners

Published: Wednesday 6th Apr 2022 by Sam

Coachella has announced the official replacement for Kanye West, whose departure from the 2022 line-up was confirmed earlier this week.

And it’s a two-for-one special.

Full story below…

Moments ago, organizers revealed that The Weeknd will be joining Swedish House Mafia in the Sunday headliner slot once occupied by West.

Interestingly, prior to the global health crisis putting a two-year pause on Coachella, SHM had previously been set to perform on the Friday spot (which is now being headlined by Harry Styles).

With this rejig, the ensemble is back on the bill and will be sharing with Abel – with whom they share the same management.

Easily one of the most coveted gigs on the live calendar, playing Coachella serves as quite the coup for The Weeknd – who is deep in the promotional cycle for his latest album ‘Dawn FM.’

Other names who reportedly were in the mix as possible Ye replacements were Justin Bieber, Tyler, The Creator, Travis Scott (in a redemptive capacity), and Silk Sonic (who made clear that they didn’t have time to put together a show befitting of Coachella).

Ultimately, the ‘Moth to a Flame’ collaborators landed the slot.

Coachella returns to the Empire Polo Ground in Indio, Calif across the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022.
