Katy Perry may be no stranger to hearing her third studio album, ‘Teenage Dream,’ made history in one fashion or another over the years, but the 2010-reared set is showing no signs of slowing down its onslaught of accolade collection.
See what we mean inside:
At Billboard, ‘Dream’ remains the only female project to launch five of its songs to #1 on the Hot 100. Its biggest hit, the chart-topping ‘Firework,’ sits in the record books of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for being the highest-certified song ever by a woman (12x Platinum for sales of 12 million in the United States).
What’s more, Perry’s ‘Dream’ is listed as the highest-certified era of any artist ever – a feat which laid the groundwork for the songstress to later become the first artist to have three singles certified Diamond (meaning they sold over 10 million copies in the United States respectively).
Now, the Pop diva – who ranks as the third best-selling female performer of the digital era – is gearing up to add even more impressive achievements to her already lengthy list of accomplishments.
Taking to press Thursday (April 7), the RIAA revealed a slew of certification updates for members of Katy’s catalog. See the latest below.

- ‘Teenage Dream’ (Album)
5x Platinum

- ‘The One That Got Away’ (Single)

Just one million units shy of Diamond certification, ‘Teenage Dream’ – once it reaches the 10 million-sold mark – will make Katy just the sixth female artist to see an album released this century certified as high. As of time reported, only Shania Twain, Adele, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, and Norah Jones know such honor.
Moreover, she’ll become the fourth female performer in history to own a Diamond-certified single and album (following Taylor, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey). Unlike Swift and Carey, Perry and Houston are the only to achieve the feat with releases from the same era.
Collectively, the sales upgrades not only extend the ‘Dream’ record for being the highest-certified era in the RIAA’s 70-year history, but it also pushes Katy’s cumulative career total to 109.5 million – making her the sixth best-selling artist in the history of digital music.
Only Drake, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Kanye West, and Eminem have sold more.
Oh how the mighty have fallen
Like the time you found out that your stepmammy is also your biological sister and cousin???
