RIAA: Lil Nas X’s ‘Industry Baby’ Bumped to 4x Platinum

Published: Thursday 7th Apr 2022 by Rashad

‘Industry Baby’ may have birthed Lil Nas X‘s third run atop the Hot 100 last October, but the Kanye West-produced bop remains a commercial force thanks to a continued push on the promotional front.

Just days ahead of the sales boost it’s enjoying this week thanks to a high octane presentation at the 64th annual GRAMMY Awards (as we reported here), the song had already been pushed up the certification ladder at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

More inside:

No April Fools joke, the RIAA took to press Friday (April 1) to announce ‘Baby’ had been bumped to 4x Platinum.  This means it’s sold the equivalence of 4 million copies in the United States alone.

Co-billed with rapper Jack Harlow, the tune’s status now ties it with the controversial ‘Call Me By Your Name’ for third place among LNX’s most successful songs.  Only ‘Old Town Road’ (at 16x Platinum) and ‘Panini’ (at 6x Platinum) have been certified higher.

With the update, Nas now sits at a cumulative 28 million digital singles sold to date.

For Harlow, ‘Baby’ delivers his second-highest certification award to date following the success of 2020’s 6x Platinum ‘What’s Poppin.’
