The Pop Stop: Psy & Suga, Ava Max, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Friday 29th Apr 2022 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Psy & Suga, Ava Max, Calum Scott, Muna, Holly Humberstone, and The Red Clay Strays.

Join us inside…

Psy & Suga – That That

After announcing his comeback single earlier this week, it’s clear that Psy is headed toward global domination once more. Entitled ‘That That,’ the song is produced by and features Suga of BTS. Rollicking beats and enthusiastic horns guide the song as Psy and Suga deliver one of the catchiest choruses of the year. Call it a comeback, call it an evolution, either way Psy is back and better than ever with ‘That That.’

Ava Max – Maybe You’re The Problem

Ava Max is taking her tears to the club on her latest song ‘Maybe You’re The Problem.’ A nostalgic 80s-inspired dance tune, she complements the upbeat production with heartbreaking lyrics about a failed relationship. With ‘Maybe You’re The Problem,’ Ava Max not only proves that sometimes the best therapy is to dance it away, but she also proves why she is one of the brightest pop stars on the rise.

Calum Scott – Heaven

Serving as the latest single from his upcoming ‘Bridges’ album – due out June 17 – ‘Heaven’ is an ethereal piano ballad that sees Scott compare his love interest to that of Heaven. Proving that there is no greater force than love, Scott has created his own paradise, a place he has been kind enough to invite us to with this must-hear song.

Muna – Kind of Girl

Indie-pop group Muna is back after sharing two of the best songs of their years – see ‘Silk Chiffon’ with Phoebe Bridgers and ‘Anything But Me.’ Their latest song is called ‘Kind of Girl’ and it is a poignant, sweeping country ballad about self-acceptance. Never cheesy and ever blissful, ‘Kind of Girl’ only provides further evidence that their album ‘Muna’ – available on June 24 – may be one of the year’s best.

Holly Humberstone – Sleep Tight

Singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone is back with her latest song ‘Sleep Tight.’  Set to fizzy guitars and a gentle backbeat, she details a romance that gives her a feeling unlike any other. Truly breathtaking from start to finish, ‘Sleep Tight’ is a prime example of Humberstone’s brilliance not only as a musician, but as a songwriter as well.

The Red Clay Strays – She’s No Good

Appearing on their debut ‘The Moment of Truth’ – out today – Americana group The Red Clay Strays have shared the soon to be inescapable ‘She’s No Good.’ Across the song singer Brandon Coleman recounts a woman who was deadly from the start. With production lifted straight from 90s country, The Red Clay Strays have created a tune that stands among the genre’s best this year.
