Taylor Swift may have just begun the process of re-recording her first six albums, but it appears as though the impact is already being felt in the music industry.
Case in point, Ashanti is now crediting Swift for helping her to feel “empowered” to re-record her debut album.
More details below…
Speaking to Metro UK, she revealed that she “always had the idea to go back in and re-record and gain the masters,” but went on to say that she felt “empowered” by the ‘Blank Space’ songstress.
“I think Taylor is amazing for what she’s done and to be able to be a female in this very male-dominated industry, to accomplish that is amazing.”
The ‘Foolish’ hitmaker then went on to share that she is delighted to see women gaining equal ground in the music scene, saying:
“More of us have to continue that narrative of women empowerment, and just artists as a whole. Owning your property and getting a chance to have ownership of your creativity is so so important.”
“Male, female, singer, rapper, whatever, I hope this is a lesson for artists to get in there and own.”
Ashanti’s self-titled debut album arrived on April 2, 2002 and earned her three Grammy nods. As of reporting, there is no specific release date as to when the re-recorded album will arrive.
As for Swift, she has shared two re-recorded albums. Her first being ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ in April of last year, while ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ arrived in November of last year.
