Fans waiting for Jesy Nelson‘s solo album will have to exercise ample patience. Because, according to a new report, the former Little Mix star’s long-awaited debut has been delayed.
Full story below…
Six months after dramatically leaving the Pop ensemble, Nelson shocked the industry with the launch of her first solo single ‘Boyz’ last October. A launch some felt was oddly expediated.
The star’s new label went all out, pairing the 30-year-old with Nicki Minaj on the track and even featuring Diddy (who the song sampled) in its big-budget music video.
Despite debuting at #4 in the UK, the release was met with a polarizing response, and much of the fiery discourse centered on claims of cultural appropriation (specifically “blackfishing”) – which in turn saw the scale of Nelson’s diminished relationship with her former bandmates unravel publicly.
‘Boyz’ would quickly disappear from the charts and little else has been heard from the star musically since.
Citing a source close to the situation, The Sun reports that this isn’t a coincidence. For, Nelson has been sent “back to the drawing board.”
The controversy wasn’t cited as the reason, though it’s hard to envisage a scenario where it didn’t factor into the equation (see: letting it simmer down).
Instead, label bosses appear more concerned with the other material recorded thus far.
The source is quoted as saying:
“Jesy has worked incredibly hard on her solo music.
After releasing Boyz last year, she let the label hear early versions of the songs she had come up with.
The bosses felt sure there was potential there but they wanted her to go back to the drawing board. They felt the tracks would benefit from it — so that is what she has done.
She is determined to only play them the new music when it’s perfect, so they haven’t heard any more since then.”
Dejected fans needn’t fret too much. As the same source alleges the label remains “excited” and there are “high hopes” for the material.
While the project now sits without a definitive release frame, time will tell how it all plays out.
