Major! Brandy Signs with Motown / Begins Work on 8th Album

Published: Friday 24th Jun 2022 by Sam

Brandy is embarking on her next chapter with a brand new record label.

Easily one of music’s most iconic vocalists, the songbird is now nesting at one of music’s most prestigious imprints.

Full story below…

Moments ago, it was announced that B-Rocka has signed with Motown Records.

The deal serves as Brandy’s first major-label partnership in over a decade and follows the chart-topping indie release of her 2020 album, ‘B7.’

Speaking about signing with Motown, the star said in a statement:

“I’ve always wanted to work with Ethiopia [Habtemariam, Motown’s CEO and chairwoman]. I’ve just always thought that she was just a bad-ass Black woman who loves music, knows music, and I saw her work her way up because she’s so talented. So when I heard that she was who she is now at Motown, I was like, ‘If I ever were to go back to a major label, I would want to work with Ethiopia.’ And it happened.”

She added:

“I used to always wonder when I would watch Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and all of the amazing Motown artists, ‘Would I ever be able to make it in that time? What would I have sounded like on Motown?’ I would have loved to have that Motown sound. And then, years later, I get this opportunity to do this unbelievable partnership with them. And it’s Ethiopia. And it’s Motown. And I’m like, ‘Wow, this is the universe! I’m going with this! I have to go with this.’ They’ve just been so supportive of me.”

There’s new music on the way too in the form of Brandy’s forthcoming 8th album:

“I can’t wait to get started on the music because it’s going to be so refreshing, so different. And I’m just looking forward to singing and listening and learning and growing all over again. I feel like I’m reborn. I feel like I have a whole new energy, a whole new spark, to keep going, to keep moving, and to keep doing what I love to do, which is sing, rap, act and dance.”

Habtemariam said of the deal:

“Brandy is one of the most prolific voices in the history of music.  Her contribution to R&B continues to influence newcomers and contemporaries around the world. We are ecstatic to welcome Brandy to the Motown family and eager to join her in making musical history.”

With a talent as enduring as Brandy’s, we’ll always be buzzed about what’s to come.

Super exciting times!

    Motown Screwed up Kelly Rowland and Mya’s career… we’ll see… 💅🏾

And you screw the crack pipe just like a crack w**** you are

    • theone June 24, 2022

hmm no sylvia rhone left motown that messed the situation for Kelly up but they were the ones which made Motivation, Commander and iM DOWN FOR WHATEVER A HIT

  2. Chilepleaseee June 24, 2022

She needs to be on a major label with a decent budget because that last album just wasn’t it.

  3. Clarks0o00ñ June 24, 2022

I hope this deal.was worth more than 500k

Shes so irrelevant that’s why jack harlow dont know her.

Of she was smart she will do some features with Calvin Harris, mark Ronson, sam smith, khalid , zedd , martin garrix , the chainsmokers etc

Get that euro dance pop hit , then branch out.

These euro DJs are looking for strong vocalists to sing on their EDM beats.

her voice has always been deep and raspy, so I don’t think it fits for Dance pop, Just like Kelis doing EDM which flopped worldwide except for UK. 💅🏾 God! Her voice is deeper than most guys

      • Credits June 24, 2022

Kelis on EDM never flopped. People know those songs because they’re popular, they just don’t know it’s Kelis’ voice on those songs.

      • Paulo June 24, 2022

Brandy’s vocals have been used by DJs for decades now starting with Groove Armada sampling Best Friend. They always go thru her oldies for sampling material so she might as well come up with new songs with these producers.

      • Normila June 25, 2022

Deep vocals have been a stylistic choice. Although blessed with husky tones, her voice sits naturally at the Light Lyric Soprano tessitura, as showcased on Never Say Never ballads. To think Toni thinks Brandy is “one of the best Contraltos!” 😝

With a major label should surely mean a bigger budget than B7 which is encouraging. I respect B7 but I only listen to a few songs. Listening to it in full makes me anxious with many songs lacking a melody or overprocessed vocals that sound almost alien. I prefer R&B/pop Brandy and the back half of B7 is closer to that and imo is the more successful alternative R&B sound she was going for. But I will always be interested in whatever Brandy releases.

    • Paulo June 24, 2022

100% agree. I can respect the fact an artist with so much experience would want to experiment with their craft but B7 as an album is just not it for me.

      • Normila June 25, 2022

Although “Borderline” has gotta be The most haunting song I EVER heard!!

    • Normila June 25, 2022

Ditto. A major label surely won’t let her try to glamorize/ normalize baby mamas. 😉

  5. Zion June 24, 2022

I just hope she’s not overtly staking her background vocals like she did on her last project.

    • Normila June 25, 2022

Not only off-putting to some ears, they delay releasing the music…

  6. Keeping it 💯💯 June 24, 2022

I want full moon part 2

  7. Clarks0o00ñ June 24, 2022

I want to see her succeed
She really needs to put herself out there

Jack harlow not knowing who she is means young folks dont know her. U need young folks to know u.

Brandy get a collaboration with ed Sheeran, shawn Mendes, Charlie puth, or even harry styles or justin bieber.
This would help their careers and likewise help yours. A win win situation for everybody involved

Sing the chorus on a jay z track or kanye track or even drake track.
Drake would love to have a singer like u on one of his songs

This is how u reintroduce urself to the younger generation

Do not do what usher is doing, collaborating with city girls or ella mai. That ain’t gonna do shìt for ur career.

    • Irene June 25, 2022

Stop saying this. Jack Harlow didn’t know Angel In Disguise a popular B Side on her Never SAy Never album, and he didn’t know Ray J is her brother. HE KNOWS WHO BRANDY IS. He never said he didn’t know who she was.

      • No June 25, 2022

    • Normila June 25, 2022

She featured Kanye in ’03 when he was a nobody. Brandy’ s main issue? She’s always ahead of the curve… And a spotlight thief named Beyoncé. 😊

  8. Farrah’s luggage (8k Camila) June 24, 2022

Good! Because I hated B7. Brandy is a vocalist, but needs someone else to help her find what sounds good. Cannot wait! Justice for “Two Eleven” and “Wildest Dreams”

    • DeanD June 25, 2022

      “Wildest Dream” is the truth!

  9. NoMoreMonkey June 24, 2022

This murderer is at the mercy of songwriters and producers. She will FLOP. She is a singer and NOT and artist. Her last hit was the mother’s car she hit. MURDERER.

    • No June 25, 2022

You are a toxic evil person and I trust the karma, you will get what you give.

  10. XTINA June 24, 2022

First of all, yall are f****** crazy.

Second of all, I think she will go in the direction of “Begging And Pleading.” I don’t think she needs to try to appease the younger audience that much besides maybe making a few songs a la “Drivers License” for the TikTok generation. I want to see her work with some of the greats. She’s approaching legend status. Hope that she has another collab with Mariah and maybe we’ll finally get to hear that one with her, Fantasia and Jazmine Sullivan.

    • Normila June 25, 2022

Jazmine sounds too much like Brandy. Same runs. Same tessitura. What’s the point? Brandy needs lighter voices like a Tamar or a Bieber.

      • Salem June 25, 2022

Huh???? Jazmine sounds nothing like Brandy. If anything she sounds like gospel singer Kim Burrell mixed with some Lauryn Hill, MJB and the Clark Sisters. Her voice is much heavier and brassier than Brandy’s even though that’s one of her favorite vocalists .

  11. True Tea June 24, 2022

We need a good girl gone bad era from Brandy.

Tie Jack Harlow to the bed, grab the whip and PUNISH him!!! While wearing nothing but 👠 on.

    • marilyn monh-O-E ® 👠(#1 DIVA) June 25, 2022

Diva will ride on top of Jack yummy Harlow🍆💅🏾 Doing cowgirl all night long💯 Diva won’t let this man take a break and will drain all of his big d energy

      • True Tea June 25, 2022

I know that’s right DIVA. No breaks and long hours. You do the crime, you do the time.

  12. eric June 24, 2022

I don’t feel really good about Motown, but I’ll be happy to hear another Brandy album and hopefully it’s great. More “Wildest Dreams”.

  13. Petunia June 25, 2022

Lol everyone always wants something different from Brandy. I for one enjoyed pop Brandy (Human) and I loved the direction she went in with B7 although the album as a whole could use some fine tuning. One thing about her she’s versatile and isn’t afraid to try new things. Most artists from her generation are stuck in their ways and stubborn. Her days of huge commercial success are over she just needs to remain consistent and stop waiting 5 plus years to drop albums…. She has a lane, most of these new R&B artists are using her sound….

  14. Shayla Queen™ 👑 June 25, 2022

Not Brandy having yet ANOTHER album out before Trenches lmaoooooooooo! 🤣

    • LOL June 25, 2022

Brandy released an album recently? Lmaoooo 🤣

    • Monica Stan June 25, 2022

You can’t keep your QUEEN Monica off your mind. It must be crack 💀💀💀

  15. Gworl Bye June 25, 2022

All this hype and noise because Jack Harlow (and millions more) don’t know who she is. This isn’t gonna change that lol.

  16. Blast June 25, 2022

She looks and sounds amazing. That’s all that matters. Her and Monica gave stunning performances. 90s queens doing their thing! I can’t wait for Ushers tiny desk to drop.

  17. Normila June 25, 2022

I need Never Say Never ballads, Full Moon avant-garde R&B bops, and a first single as indelible as “Borderline”. If helmed by Darkchild, Timbaland, and L. A. Reid…. all the better! #greedy 😂

  18. Roberta FlackSabbath June 26, 2022

What 43 year old has new hits? NONE.

She doesn’t write music or songs. F her. FLOP.

Vocal bible. I will burn a bible because it is RACIST!
