Jay-Z might not be charging for guest spots these days, however, that appears as though it was not always the case.
For, Joe Budden is now claiming that Hov was charging him a good chunk of money to have featured on his song ‘Pump It Up.’
More details below…
During an interview with the ‘Flip Da Script’ podcast, Budden revealed that his team tried to get Jay-Z to record a remix to his single ‘Pump It Up,’ but they couldn’t afford his $250,000 fee, saying:
“I don’t think it was a big number. I think that was his number. That’s my number to rap on this new artist’s remix. It was just big in my world, but it wasn’t a big number.”
Budden goes on to defend Jay-Z and claims that he doesn’t think that Hov was overcharging, saying:
“That was par for the course. It was normal. It was big to me because it was unattainable. It was outside of my budget, but the blessing was that he gave a number. If there was a way to get it, maybe this gets done. Maybe the start of your career goes different if you can find that money. But no, we didn’t have that.”
However, he also revealed that he was still optimistic about getting the ‘Holy Grail’ rapper on the song because of his relationship with the song’s producer Just Blaze.
Jay’s ‘Pump It Up’ verse did see the light of day and it made it to his 2010 greatest hits album, ‘Jay-Z: The Hits Collection, Volume One,’ which Budden has gone on to praise.
The news of how much Jay-Z cost comes shortly after he revealed to Kevin Hart that he does not charge for features (as we reported here).
These people don’t make music for passion but only for fame and money. It’s a sad industry I don’t want to belong to, I’m so glad to be independant.
Who da f u c k are you? Going independent? What’s your label name? #grannyt r a n n y label???? 💅🏾
Didn’t y’all just post Jay-Z not charging for a verse yesterday. Joe is an asshole trying call Jay-Z a liar cause he charged him take his picture down
Pump It Up was what 20 years ago of course he was charging back then. He doesn’t charge NOW and he’s very selective about features…
, he also shared how much it’ll cost to have him on a song, saying: “I never charge.”
I never charge. Joe is calling him a liar cause he charged him. That’s why I said take his picture down.
“I never charge” is in the present tense. “I’ve never charged” would include the past. Lmao, when you’re stupid. They should take your comment down. 😂
Joe said he does charge. Your the stupid asshole who can’t read.
Crackney hoeston won’t charged nobody for a duet. They just need offering her some cracks and coco💅🏾
Jay has money-focused Virgo Moon. What else attracted money-focused Virgo Bey?
I hov knew that number was out of Joe’s reach. It’s the same as charging 40/50 bucks to get in the club or having to buy a bottle of champagne or wine to get a table at a restaurant, it can be called charging you out the way.and I quote: what’s the difference in a 4.0 and a 4.6?
