Janet Jackson is the name on everyone’s lips after she served up a rocking live set of her greatest hits as headliner of the 2022 Essence Fest last weekend.
When not dazzling the New Orleans crowd with a metal-paneled, form-fitting, sparkling black jumpsuit, the 56-year-old showed off iconic footwork as she zoomed through classic numbers like ‘Rhythm Nation,’ ‘If,’ ‘Escapade,’ and more.
If the overwhelmingly positive response to the high octane performance wasn’t indication enough of how well it was received, reports of the Pop Queen popping box office records certainly should do it.

With a tenure that’s over 25-years-strong, the Essence Fest has managed to court headlining performances from the likes of Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Prince, Usher, and many more over the years.
Even with some of the biggest names in music history to its credit, Janet – via a show-stopping set at the 2022 edition of the fest – still managed to claim some of the event’s biggest box office receipts ever.
According to local news outlet NOLA, the drawing power of the youngest of the iconic Jackson clan resulted in one of the “highest grosses in Essence Fest’s entire 27-year history.”

Nicki talks a lot of s*** but never delivers onstage. Essence attracts a more mature crowd. They aren’t checking for her. Of course MISS Janet Jackson would bring them out. She’s a certified legend. ❤️

The concert was absolute fire! I’m a life-long Janet stan and that was her best performance ever. What really impressed is that she sang the entire concert live and sounded great. I have never seen that before and I’ve been to all her tours or watched them online. I’ve never cared that she lipsynced some of her shows because they’re such lavish productions that are full of almost non-stop dancing that usually run 2 hours, but this time it was only an hour, she was moving the whole time but didn’t do the full routines and the tradeoff was live vocals! And it was a one night only event instead of 200 nights on the road. I’ve been saying for years Janet should do a concert where it’s just her, a stool, a small band and a microphone and it would kill. I love her voice and don’t need the spectacle every time. She is Queen. She is enough! I was so impressed. She’s almost 60 and giving the best showcase of her life! People have always low key slept on Janet but she’s probably been the most consistent of that generation of icons and is showing why she’s still deserves her flowers all these years later. She did that and we loves to see it. Congrats, Janet!

Janet Jackson is absolutely stunning I was watching on YouTube at home in Georgetown Texas along with her videos of the past she still got all the moves that she had when she was 25 years old 56 looks good on her thank you Janet you’re the best you’re my queen
