Janet Jackson is set to storm the stage as a headliner at the Essence Festival of Culture next month.
Prior to then, the music megastar aptly stuns on the cover of Essence Magazine‘s latest issue.
The spread, which was lensed by Yu Tsai, is accompanied by an interview feature that sees the mom of one open up about the status of her hotly anticipated new album, ‘Black Diamond.’
Speaking with Gerrick Kennedy, Jackson said of her elusive LP:
“It’s so funny because I see the fans asking, “When are we going to get Black Diamond?” “Will you please release?” Sometimes things happen that you don’t expect to happen, and you have to figure things out—or you’re in a space in your life when you have to take a step back and take a break for a minute. Even though it’s something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job. There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can’t say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There’s so much that I want to do—but my number one job is being a mama.”
Suffice to say, it seems like we’ll need to exercise a bit of patience.
Still, we’re ready when she is!

It definitely did, she had everything set for 2020 until c-19 shut down everything. Also 2018-2019 was truly the best time for her to release an album. She was everywhere with BBMA Icon award, BMI Icon award, BGR Rockstar award, RDMA award that is now named after her, MTV EMA global Icon award and countless other tributes that year. Let’s not forget she was inducted into the RRHOF in 2019 which she followed up with a successful Las Vegas residency and numerous festival appearances. That truly was a great time for her to strike, but we shall wait. I’m surprised she also didn’t release a single with the success of her documentary. She also has a movie production contract with lionsgate films that she has yet to get into. It would be nice for her to come out with a collaboration album, she’s had a few during her career but as much as I love Janet I think it might help boost interest because she takes such long breaks before releasing new material.
Damn, this is one of the best shoots Janet’s done in a minute. She looks beautiful! And a round of applause to the stylist. I’m surprised she looks this good, is performing and released a documentary about her life and Black Diamond still isn’t out yet. I can wait. I’m used to it with Ms. Jackson, but at least she usually delivers!
It’s funny but nice to see her all about being a mom because I remember in the 90s she said she didn’t really want kids. Now she’s a mama bear. We loves to see it!

The baby blue fur jacket is the best shot, but in the others what possessed her stylist to put that mess of a wig on her head? It’s too try-hard-to-be-edgey and and the crimping and locks are ageing for Janet.
